Didn't read the article so sorry for attempting to jump into this convo from a place of ignorance.
But I've always assumed these evaluations of celebs/tech bros/companies/sports franchises were based on projections of what people think they're worth. And that hardly ever do they have that money on hand and may be lucky to have half of that assessment in real assets.
Joe Budden for example. I don't know what he's valued at. But I have to assume that number is based largely in how much someone projects he could sale his JBN property for, no? Sprinkle in what he makes from his subscriptions and whatnot, but the major number is a projection.
Kanye being worth 6 bill. He never had 6 bill. But they projected his brand to be worth 6 bill, no?
