I'm becoming more handy around the house and feeling accomplished(least handy person around when it comes to cars and fixing things around the house). Last weekend I installed all new electrical outlets in the living room and kitchen and a ceiling fan. Today I just replaced a toilet from 1972. It's been constantly running for about 2 months now I couldn't take the $60 increase in the water bill. I started off trying to just buy the flapper and valve. But by time I started taking the toilet apart it was so old everything was either corroded rusted and unmovable and the rest was disentigrating it was unrepairable. I'm screwed I have everything apart and it's unable to be put back together. 30 minutes on YouTube doing some studying I hit up home Depot and had it fixed in under 20 minutes and under $150 for brand new everything. It felt good knowing how to fix something so important yourself that turns out to be really simple. I can't imagine what a same day plumber would have charged. I learned something and my rent will be $150 cheaper this month

I have a dope landlord anything that goes wrong he calls someone out and has it fixed within 48 hours. Most time same day. I feel bad because some of the people he calls out are charging outrageous pricing and jacking up the bills once they find out they are fixing a rental. Only reason I care is because my landlord is a senior 85+ and he's the family of a friend. He's not an actual landlord he just rented this family home out to me 10 years ago when I was down bad and trying to get a stable place for me and my daughter. He was renting it to me for a quarter of what he could get 10 years ago, and about half of what he could get now. I take care of it like I own it.

I'm pretty oblivious sometimes til I get slapped in the back of the head. Two months ago like every 10 minutes you could hear it running for a few seconds I never thought anything about it until I got my January water bill, an extra 60. It's January water bill should be at its lowest with no lawn water and such. Toilet is only thing I can think of. So I bought the universal valve and flapper thing. Put it on, seemed to work about I didn't notice the running as much but still sometimes, adjust the water level and let it ride. Sporadically all this time and sometime before now that I look back sometimes there would be little small puddles of water behind the toilet. Anyways that fixed it some bill was still 50 bucks higher.

Once I started taking it apart though it wasn't the valve it was the entire toilet. The water was leaking in-between the tank and the bowl and just puddling there. All of the seals had discentigrated and the bolts were corroded, and it had a leak at the bottom of the bowl too all of those seals and gaskets were gone and the bolts were even in the mounting plate at the bottom. OG toilet from 1972 bad boy had to go.
