the thread about nothing...

“What’s new with you?”
*suddenly forgets every single thing I’ve ever done*

I have lunch most weeks with my dad - he’s trying to make it a habit which is fine with me because we get on fine.

Every week though “so what’s going on with you guys?”

“Surviving mainly…” probably isn’t what he wants to hear.

At least your dad asks about your life. Mine just goes on and on about his and when I try to talk about my life he literally mid-sentence just starts talking about himself again lol. I don't know if it's mental illness or he's just an ***hole. Pretty sure it's the latter

Does he know about that you're into bikes? Recent rides? Anything bike related?
Movies?
Anything going on with you guys?

I was exaggerating slightly - we get on fine and have plenty to talk about. I did recently have to tell him off for having a rant about unions and strikes - I pointed out that for his whole career as a doctor he was a member of a strong union and the reason they didn’t strike was because the government always gave in to their demands and he did pretty well out of it…

We talk about bikes a bit - he has an electric bike that he gets about on and I do most of his mechanical work. He’s good with his hands but doesn’t have a lot of bike specific knowledge or tools.

Much of the time we spend together is fixing his various computer issues - I guess that’s a common theme in people with 70-something parents. I’m beginning to farm that out to kid2 though - he’s studying computer science so knows way more than me.
