Can some people learn better outside of reading books? Sure. But that doesn't mean that encouraging kids to read is overrated

if you have self motivated intrerest in any subject you gravitate towards what you enjoy reading about and you pick up books to increase your knowledge or do your research through reading it through articles, journals etc online.
One of the main purposes of having a well rounded education is for students to be engaged in multiple subjects. It's just how The curriculum is setup for the students. Read, read, read, test ,test ,test. But imo that's not a well rounded education cause what your reading about you may never even use in the real world but at least you have the knowledge cause you learned about it through reading it in book with curriculum setup for you.
