Well written entry and I too am obsessed with this particular shoe. (Even tho they butchered the retro) I’ve owned 2 pairs over the years and even tho the second wasn’t my current size (which I could never find) I was just glad to have them. That slam mag poster tho
There's something about the Sheeds, their simplicity, the patent leather, the fact that Sheed wore them when there were/are literally hundreds of other, more techy sneakers available has always made them a cult-favorite of mine (and obviously you and many others as well!)
I'm jealous man, I wish I had a pair back during their heyday when I was super jaded and was just discovering sneakers.
And I still have that Slam issue. I actually went through it the other day. I can remember reading it front-to-back on a bus during a class trip to the Statue of Liberty lol

Same here bro. I've always been interested in the niche or under-the-radar sneaker or clothing choices (or anything else, for that matter) people make. I love reading about why something innocuous like a Wallabee boot means the world to someone lol.

I just have to get this off my chest....
My eldest brother was born with hypothyroidism and ever since he was a child he has to take medication daily. The side effects of his condition are being a slow learner and generally unathletic/unenergetic. It's basically in that grey area of almost being mentally disable but still capable of normal things and that you wouldn't know he had a condition unless you lived with him daily. He always talks to me about getting a better job aside from being a cashier. He's the eldest and has been stuck in that job since he was 16 and now 32 while me and my sister are becoming "successful". It pains me to see my big bro like that yearning to have a better life but deep down I know he can't achieve it.

I'm sorry to hear that, man. But hey, you and your sister could maybe set aside some money together so that in a few years he can leave that dead end job and set up a business for himself. That would probably lift his spirits and give him a chance to do much better for the family.
