Imagined order. It’s how our society works. If cyber bullying isn’t a real thing then neither is society or the government. We all measure ourselves on some given social structure and to a lot of kids that grew up in the Internet era that structure and community is this social media. When they lose face or are bullied in that sphere it hurts them as bad as it does for people in a more old school traditional society to be ostracized and ridiculed.

Then they need some perspective. I got real life bullied growing up because of my weight. Got pushed into a fence by some ******* on my way home from school...no reason just wanted to be an *******. Got called plenty of names to my face. They were letting the fat jokes off for years. THAT is bullying and I think it’s a disgrace that we put cyber bullying on the same level. It’s not the same thing.

Its like how people are lumping in a woman getting her *** grabbed into the same category as rape under the umbrella of “rape culture”. No, there’s levels.

Verbal abuse in person =/= as DMs/Comments on social media. There’s no body language, facial expressions, or tone of voice to go along with the words themselves. The transfer of energy isn’t there. We do most of our communicating through non verbal communication. Words on a screen can’t compare to a person in your face degrading you, harassing you, threatening you. You can’t block them and stop receiving their words. You have to deal with this persons words and energy in real time.

Can cyber bullying manifest itself in real life? Of course. I’m not saying it has no real world implications if the people involved actually live in proximity to one another and come in contact with each regularly. What I’m saying is, cyber bullying can never compare to actual bullying in real time. Anyone who’s experience both can tell you that.
