I did this whenever I felt going to lecture was not helpful. For one of my classes the professor would literally just read off the PowerPoint which was available online so I figured it was pointless to go. If I had any questions I'd ask my TA in recitation or I'd email my professor/go to office hours.

I feel this had a class where the prof was super nice and chill and wouldn't take attedance so half way through the semester over half the class wouldnt show up
