had to check the origins of the word in the first place
kinda makes sense now, the oddness of it:

I remember byke in 5th grade, there was like a spelling bee and I was selected because I'm one of the smart kids I guess. The first word I got was shirt and I spelled it wrong lol I didn't care because I knew I wasn't gonna win it.

Funny thing is English words are easy to spell if you learned it as a second language because most of the words you spell it as a non native speaker would pronounce it
Like Wednesday was easy for me cuz I spelled it how I pronounced it with an accent

I still can't spell restaurant or furniture without my phone. To be fair tho my family from Arkansas so I didn't even learn how to say those words correctly until I got away from the people in my house
