Some interesting points here, but like most have said already, this is what it has become, don't let the shoes consume you, they are just shoes.

I remember way back when Air Forces were king. Hell I still have a couple of my pairs from then. But it still was never near the level it was now, I could walk to my local shoe store and pick up a pair day of release with no problems. (During this time many major stores such as finishline and foot locker did not have the right to sell forces online so you had to go in store.)
I can't speak for SB's or tiffanys. But I'm fairly confident, the resellers where much less in those days then they were now. I never recall anyone I knew having such trouble finding a pair of kicks as much as we do now.

i remember when the AJ XVII first came out in the black/silver colorway I really wanted them but couldnt pony up the $200 (i was 14 at the time). So I waited on them, only to get them 2 months later in my size for half the price. That'll never happen again. Anything thats a hot sneaker (retro Js or foams for the most part, expanded into QS colorways of shoes like the durants, LBJs, and kobes) or a shoe sold at a great price (basically anything listed on the corkcloth website) instantly gets snapped up immediately by resellers.

IMO it all went down hill when the younger (sorry to single them out but) rappers started rocking sneakers instead of Designer Brands. Rappers like Big Sean, Kid Cudi, Wiz, and the The One We Do Not Speak Of Wale. They began to wear sneakers and in turn the youth followed. This compounded with resellers already being able to get their hands on the kicks prior to he recent influx of "sneakerheads". Now the resellers are having a feild day, the "sneakerheads" are trying to find kicks for retail, and Nike is making limited numbers to keep demand higher then production. The resale boom started IMO after the yeezys.....all downhill after that. Now im not saying Celebs havent been rocking kicks but if you really analyze the last 2 or 3 years celebs have been on jordans and Nikes harder then ever ESPECIALLY the yeezys EVERY celeb had a pair. So instead of L.V.s and Guccis now the kids can be like celebs by buy Nikes that are a fourth of the cost. Not saying this is how it is but this is how i see it. Peace

i love the current selling prices of the game right now. not a reseller tho, i just been selling off the ones i dont wear. right now is DEF the time to sell the ones you dont touch!

I agree with this for the most part. As one of the older dudes on here(40 next month!yikes) I don't believe in this "Shoe Game" people speak of. Sneaker heads have been around for a while, but the idea of this "game" that was somehow started sometime in the early 80's or whatever is a falsehood. Only shoe companies, mainly Nike and resellers want you to believe there is a "shoe game". It makes them money. Once you realize that there is only shoes that you want to buy and WEAR then you see that all this shoe game business is a mirage. And all these people who stand in line or who beat, stab, or kill others for a pair of shoes is a creation of a capitalistic society, one that we all are a victim of good or bad.Originally Posted by 430AM

Plain and simple... You buy the kicks you like... Build up your collection. BUY, SELL & TRADE until you have a collection you are happy with and THAT'S IT.
If you are in it for the PASSION and LOVE of sneakers then why does RESELLING or anything of that nature even concern you???
Cats that make threads like this sound like some real crybaby %@+ bums... Like someone is supposed to give a %!%! that you were in the "game" and into sneakers before them. Get over yourself bruh. The culture is what it is and if you no longer want to be a part of it then GET OUT, there arent enough sneakers to go around anyway so you def. won't be missed.

the sneaker culture now reminds me a little of hip-hop. It use to be so doe back in the day, simple- now look at it. Beats have changed, but the slang is the same. It's grown so much and has turned into what many may call- dead, or lost. But it's just taking another form. The sneaker culture now is taking a new turn due to the internet, but more so to the demand for retro's- why? because it sold then...and since fashion now is what was cool then. It just goes to show you how timeless these sneakers are..ok i'm loosing track- I feel that the evil in the culture is necessary for it to grow and become stronger and more respected on a larger scale.

It's simple, really. 60/70's babies were teens or in their 20s when MJ started playing.
Then there's the 80s/90s generation who grew up idolizing the 'God'.
Now we've got people from the mid 90's who never watched him play hitting puberty.
Their dads and big brothers or cousins or whatever, IDOLIZE MJ. They buy the kicks, etc. They're still 50 max.
Until this group begins dying off, in like 30 years, then we'll hit a plateau.
What's going on is we're adding a new generation of fans while no one is dropping the lifestyle.
Kind of like the concept of overpopulation, more people but the same amount of resources.
This is why we're "starving"

good reads in here. I got off shoes probably around early 09 to focus on college & now that I've graduated I just had a sudden urge to start getting back into.
