My collection thus far...Mangos cleared customs in NY on Wednesday so I'm expecting those sometime this week. Gonna pick up tour yellows eventually and blue camos...and fingers crossed for a Dark Knight colorway. The Kobe VI single-handedly got me back into the shoe game.

Do you mean higher as in the cut of the shoe or higher as in the cushioning? They're about the same cut around the ankle, but if you're talking about which one has more cushioning, it's definitely the VIs.

like it was twisting my foot

i want to cop the tour yellows, think they could go nice with some burgundy or purple gear

but these are horrible in terms of comfort

horrible comfort? maybe you have wide feet if they're twisting your foot? because kobes are notoriously narrow.
for a basketball shoe, these are pretty much on the comfortable side.

the vi's are very comfortable to me. mind you it'll take a wear or two to break them in as they mold to your feet, after a couple wears, it's like they're not even there..
