The RETRO Gaming Thread!

Used to watch this a few times a week. Thank god I was broke. Saved me from throwing away money.

Just started a Chrono Trigger playthrough. Hard to believe it's been about 27 years.

Just finished. Still easily one of the best games ever made. It's like they took all of the things that annoyed people in RPGs of that era and did away with them. Only complaints you could make is the game is short. Average time to beat is probably 20 - 25 hours. That doesn't bother me at all though.

May do Final Fantasy 6 next.

Is 20-25 bad?

Back then…I guess it was cool to have 60+ hours of content. But it tended to just be artificial grinding.

Today I don’t mind if a game is 8-10 hours.

And Final Fantasy 6 (SNES III) is also a great experience. So is part four. That one is a little more difficult.

On the Genesis side, there’s Phantasy Star 2 and 4. But I’d say they’re a notch below FF and more Anime based dungeon crawlers with heavy grinding.

I'm doing FF7 Remake right now which the standard time is 40 hours. I played around that time already but not close to finishing it. doing a lot of grinding and sidequests.

Twelve year old me might have had an issue with a 20 - 25 hour RPG. That's perfect for me nowadays though. You can of course extend that playtime with New Game + to go for more endings.

I remember the og American version of Final Fantasy 4 being pretty easy. Played a version of the game with the Japanese difficulty and it could be pretty hard. Final Fantasy stopped being a challenge for a long time after FF5. You're basically mini gods at the end of FF6. I don't think it got hard again till Final Fantasy 13, although I never played much of FF12. Need to add that to my to-do list of games to play.

classic FF7 got me into the RPG genre and FF7 has become my staple or godtier game. I'm just a bit disappointed that the remake didn't come out soon enough while my gaming habits wasn't waning yet. it would be nice for the new generations to play if ever square would remake all the past FF games.

They need to remake the PS1 Final Fantasy games more than any others. Would love an FF8 and FF9 remake like they're doing with FF7.

I'll probably be old and senile by the time that happens though.

They could have done it during the PS3 era. But they opted to make new games of the franchise and was moving towards mmorpg. That's 10 years gone to waste and 10 years lost in developing the remakes. I also lost 10 years of my active gaming life. Having said that, I'm still glad being able to play the remake even in the twilight of my gaming career.

TURBO UNO TURBO UNO What game for the N64 would you say is better, Mario Kart 64 or Diddy Kong racing? I’ve enjoyed both, but I would go with DKR.
I’m a Mario fan so I tend to stick with his games and even though it might play a bit more crude it’s still a great game to play. I got hooked last time I was just testing a console found at the thrift store, lol.

just got into this warhammer 40k lore...audio/youtube n ****....
