The Old PlayStation Thread | *NEW THREAD IS UP*

What gets me is what's the point of even buying the games on disc if you still have to install? You might as well download (which I'm sure they probably want us to do anyway) and save the trip/time. I've always like the idea of having a physical disc rather than a download but if they're essentially both gonna end up eating up HD space what's the purpose?

It's for people who don't have the best internet. Blu-ray drives can't keep up with the rest of the system so the system just copies data from the disk in the background until it's all on the hard drive.

If your internet speeds are good and Sony has pre loading on all digital games then yea digital is viable.

Also.
Sony Brazil Game show stream live right now.

I'm doing physical copies because I live with a few people in a house and don't wanna hog the bandwidth downloading 40gb and 50 gb games...
Isn't it going to require you to download those regardless? Whether physical or digital

I might just get a new hard drive on the first good sale I see on a 1.5 TB. I just checked out Tiger Direct and Newegg and hard drive prices aren't as low as I expected/hoped them to be. I upgraded my 60 GB PS3 to a 320 GB for less than the price of a new game. That was a while ago.

yeah but the information being downloaded will be coming from the disc and not from the internet.

How do I go about swapping the 500 gb hard drive that comes with the ps4 to a 1 tb one? I'm not really good with electronics so I don't know how to do it myself.

And also, would swapping the hard drive have an effect on my warranty?

It's as easy as just taking it out, putting the new one in and letting it format. The console does all the hard work.

Had drive doesn't have an effect on the warranty as far as I know. Sony encouraged hard drive swapping with the PS3, so I don't see that changing with this one.

Yeah I get the whole buy/sell used games thing. Guess I just can't get why it should be mandatory to install to play is all. The fact the games are so big in size doesn't help either. Time for me to look into upgrading the HDD then

Thankfully I don't normally play a lot of games usually have no lore than like 4 games at once :lol I don't play as much as I used to but even when I did I never played many games.. Just sports/fps.. When the new one drops delete old crap and call it a day

^controls being improved and controls being good are two different things.
Cod's controls are baby butt smooth.
No other fps is touching cod in terms of controls.
Cod is one of the best selling fps, so idk how you can label it as garbage.
I strongly dislike battlefield, but I wouldn't label it was garbage.

Highest selling Nike shoe. And it's garbage.

Sales do not equal quality.

so if i want to replace the hard drive
do i need to do anything before hand
or open up the package of the brand new hdd
plop it it and play????
where will the os come from and can i put the hdd from the ps4/3 that i took out into a macbook????

If any NT brethren know of any deals on compatible hard drives. 8o

Just to be sure. The PS4 is still compatible with 9.5mm 2.5" SATA II hard drives right? I read that post on the last page and it said 12.5mm, but I couldn't find any. That's just Sony future proofing for larger capacity drives right? And should I stick with the 5400 RPM ones? If I go with a higher RPM, will that be a bad idea?

I played it safe with the PS3 hard drive. 2.5" 9.5mm SATA II 5400 RPM and everything worked out great. I don't know what the recommended drive specifications are for the PS4 though. I'm not very knowledgeable on this stuff. What's the verdict on SSD's?

Purpose is disc you can lend and trade in , digital seems like no benefits right now

Your industry comarison is off. I'd assume that most people who buy shoes buy them for much different reasons than the reasons as to why they purchase video games.

Him calling cod garbage is his seemingly unfiltered opinion.

If he was being more objective, I don't think he would have called it garbage.

All you'll need is a Phillips-head screw driver. They make it easy to take out. Hopefully there'll be a video guide soon.
The OS is probably on it's own dedicated flash memory independent of the hard drive.

Yeah, if any of ya'll can recommend some hd's i would appreciate it

I'm just going to wait for people to do comparisons. A 1TB SSD costs more than a PS4 so it's out of the question for me but it'll be interesting to see how it performs since it didn't help most games on the PS3.

I've seen some suggestions for 1.5TB Seagate HDD but I'll wait and see how they perform. 500GB will be fine till next year.

Please tell me you guy's aren't serious about us having to store data even from disk based games... that's horrible, definitely did not know that.

we've done that for extra large games this generation.  Most recently GTA V

Yeah, and I hated it then lol. Installs were my number one gripe with the PS3. And we didn't have to do install every single game last gen. I usually buy around 35 games for each console around its life course. A Tb wouldn't even be enough.

I think that the biggest internal 2.5 hdd is 2tb.

It should be enough.

Just delete your most unplayed games and you should be good.

That's what I do.
