**The Official Ralph Lauren Polo Thread**

These would be considered as a middle tier vintage piece, that are currently going for over $100 now, like the blue and red post above...these are the pieces I really like.
nice middy.

considered today middle tier though lol smh

to me it's still bottom of the barrel, throw-ins, knock around gear that i wouldn't care getting messed up.

middy, would you even consider paying a bill or more for that?

polo &@$% that hilfiger

that line alone killed anything hilfiger in houston

everybody and I mean everybody said that down here including other popular rappers

Would you believe me if I told you I got the above for like $20

I believe it because I have gotten deals quite similar for similar pieces. How long ago did you snag it for cheap though? My most recent steal was a red line country sweatshirt for about $30 shipped.

curious but would you consider the fox canyon as top tier? to me, that's still middle

Morning gents... things turned up a bit.. love the Hilfiger/Lo discussion, I have a Hilfiger nautical jacket from the 90's I loved man, quality was :smoking (heads to ebay)

Weather is cold again, guess it was too soon to put my boots away. NYC = Gotham city
I saw a group of dudes in L.E.S. the other day all wearing Vintage Tommy. Some peeps actually try to steer clear of Ralph because soo many peeps are rocking polo I guess. A lot of the peeps I know are heavy into euro and just can't understand why I mess with polo. I don't even wear my designer kicks really as much. Would rather some jays. Guess I'm getting older.

I love the redline sweatshirts....I want to get one....that's a great deal Jay

I would rank the fox canyon top tier or very close IMO, but I'm biased because it's one of my favorites...keep in mind a lot of "power pieces" are not consider power pieces in my eyes, I do consider most power pieces are dope, but not all are for me.

For example, I think the SLAM tee is nice, I don't own it, and wouldn't consider it now...for some reason I like the anonymous ethnic graphics like the 92 Ski, red stadium tee, 93 cycle jacket...etc

Great deal on the sweatshirt Jay....PS send me all your knock around Polo...seriously Lol

I really held on to my guns when the Tommy Hilfiger wave came through, I did own a side mesh sailing hat, that someone boosted for me at an outlet (btw I do not condone thievery Lol) I love that hat and I wore it too the ground. Most of the Tommy I purchased I purchased for my younger brother, which was just a few sailing shirts and jackets. But they had a lot of great lines...but I was fully committed to Polo already...it just had an appeal like no other brand in my era and garnered the most respect among other enthusiast gear heads in general from back in the day...who knows

Send me all the middle tier items Jay.....

Here's a list of possible power pieces that are head tuners I like, but I would pass up on any given Sunday...I'm sure I will forget something

1. silk crest
2. Casino roulette
3. Slam tee
4. Climb tee
5. Stadium runners pwing tee
6. Golf turnaround (i do like the other version thou)

I know there's more but that's all I can think off for now.

Oh yeah, I got the fox canyon years ago...like 2001 or yr or 2 earlier

That's a nice piece. I paid cheap for my p tennis last year and I've seen auctions end in the 800s and 1200s.

but you bought it from your friend and then re-sold it on ebay, correct? didn't it have a tear in the collar? do you see ended auctions as the market value?

i don't remember seeing that end for 800 or 1200, anyhow even if they did, to me those are outliers.

I paid $25 for my second p tennis that i ended up trading for a red pwing rings jacket

imo, power is power and there are pieces that belong in that category no matter what.

the fox canyon i would agree is close to top tier, but amongst rugby's probably in the top tier. i am biased in that i would place both river rapids above them since those are my favorites along with the football rugby. (i have all of these btw)

LOL at all the middle tier items. I have a ton of middle tier including that cream cp button down you just showed and i have all of those on that list as well.

i am not so sure on what power pieces i would pass up on nowadays. in the past, i never went for '87 - '91pieces because it was never my era that i was introduced to polo. but now that i have mostly everything from '92 to current, i'm left to only concentrate from '91 and earlier. these inflated prices make it harder and not worth it for me to even try and i am fine with what i have from that era. i know even what i have from that era is more solid than a lot of people's entire collections.

@jay. Yea I sold it on the bay for 400 shipped I believe. Had a minor tear in the collar but it wasn't noticeable. The p tennis was one of those pieces that I liked to look at as a work if art, but didn't like the way it felt or looked on me. Weird.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but in general among most enthusiast the pieces above will probably remain power pieces. '87-90 wasn't so much my era as well, with exception with the 91 indian head, I can clearly remember that line in 91, and the sweatshirts that Peter put up not that long ago.

With what you mentioned that you have, I would've been retired LOL Jay
I don't have that deep a collection, and it's late for me to get that deep, with even middle tier items going for top dollar, that's why I keep a short list...currently I would like to increase my 1992 stadium pwing line, I've narrowed that down to be my favorite...

I think like 10 yrs ago I would've felt different about that list above, but my taste have change...but for cheap I'll cop just for trading possibilities....last December I bought the tan indian head goose for $35, just for trading purposes to get the pullover instead

My favorite sweater is the navy sit down bear sweater. I have a few good ones like the rl2000 ski bear no 2 bear etc but that navy and white sit down bear sweaters are my fav. In the mist of the bickering the other day. You and jay made a point about getting pieces for the lo rather than paying too dollar. Actually made me think and re evaluate.

It's just my nature to try to get Polo cheap... Keep in mind, I'm from an era where it was more about getting the piece, then paying top dollar for it. As I mentioned before places like Syms, Burlington and Century 21 made it easy, then you had the outlets

Ideally getting vintage polo for cheap isn't always an easy task, for the most part, many pieces don't really go for cheap nowadays. I've been very lucky at late, I've been going strong on the hunt, because I want to retire from vintage (I don't know if it's truly possible thou Lol) For a long time I just picked up pieces as I went along, I was more focused in like 97-2001. I passed up snow beach pants for $80 and a Babe Ruth for $50, because I was like, "I'll get it later" attitude. I realize I may have to pay top dollar for some of my must haves know.

The treasures really I feel are at flea markets and thrift shops, but I never have time for that...i just hope to get lucky.

I, too, prefer the River Rapids rugbys to the Fox Canyon. I guess the Canyon is borderline top tier, but it wasn't among my faves. Plates rugby is my all time favorite rugby though. Rafting club joint maybe second. Football deserves mention too. Tennis spell out too.

As for power items that don't really appeal to me, here's some of my list -

1. Snow Beach pinwheel hat
2. Casino - it's aight. I love the colors, but not really the design. Wouldn't pay near market price for it. Darts too, I guess.
3 92 Racing pullover
4. Cycle t-neck... actually 92 SKI t-neck too. I mean, I love the design, but I hate t-necks.

Just what's coming to me off the top of my head.

I like the Dan and Dave t shirt version, but I never understood the t-neck...the design is cool, but it's on a fall / winter garment?
I have the 92 Ski T-Neck, I like it because that's the only graphic of it thats on the front, the button up, vest and coat are on the back naturally.
Thats the reason I like the indian head pullover it's the only jacket with that print on the front, the only thing I like more is the red indian head goose, but I believe it's for women

That blue dan and dave was actually the biker/hiker set. I had the T shirt and the t neck. Bought the same time I bought the polo rugby 26 in blue. That's my fav rugby and I have no clue why. Jay I know you'd probably think that's like some Polo jeans rugby equivalent but idk I love that shirt. Anyone have that in blue trying to move pm me.

CL, this is what i've been trying to get through to you. patience goes a long way in this "game". spending top dollar doesn't equate power. a lot of vintage items that are being posted were acquired for pennies on the dollar in comparison to what they go for today.

If you do not like #1, then you don't like the cycle pinwheel either, correct?
Dartboard - I don't consider power either. I've been looking for the billards polo forever for a good price, dudes must be smoking that good good to pay more than $100 for that shirt.
#3 I wouldn't even call power if we're talking the same item.

P, u know I already have dibs on Jay's throw aways haha
LOL you are buggin my dude

LOL Nat, I have the burgundy rugby, I'm missing the blue like you. It's a dope rugby, definitely do not consider that PJC lmao. Your version may differ from mine though, since I can view it in your avatar.

I think a lot of times certain pieces have greater personal appeal, especially if you are the original owner, or maybe what you were exposed it in your neighborhood friends, school mates and family, or maybe just what you liked at the time. I like both rugby version, very simple and classic.
Simple and classic is my motto for vintage Lo.

Cycle hat is better than the Beach, but certainly not a personal favorite by any means. I like the design of the Cycle logo, and from the front it can look much more "standard." I also like the colors better, though there's general overlap between the palettes of both hats.

Yeah, I don't consider the dartboard power either, but just figured I'd mention it because it's another one of the those full theme b-downs. Billiards joint is aight - pretty rarely seen IMO.

The Racing pullover I'm talking about is black with the big Polo 92 on the front (I know you have one). The design is fine, but the materials / cut / fit always made me think of like a coat of armor, or a super hero uniform. Given the racing line, that's basically by intent, but wasn't my cup of tea.

Even thou the dartboard may not be consider a power piece, these are the type of things I like, and say this because it's a piece you can wear at any age vs a Snow Beach hat. I never really like the black p racing pullover so much either, after you zipped it up, it was just a black pullover coat.

The thing I disliked about the cycle track jackets and hats is that the print so easily flakes off, they were not made for longevity.
