This story is being really blown out of proportion. The book was written by a black man, and the rest of the title is "The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word". It was widely praised by pretty much every book reviewer. It's basically a history of the word and its usage in black culture and America in general.

Still an odd thing to have on your desk as a professional basketball coach, that coaches mainly black players.

Knowing what we know about George Karl, the story definitely deserves more attention than had it been another coach.

Too much caping for George Karl.

That's literally why he had the book. Also, the video is a year old, and Karl even responded to the re-post. Also, the story about Karl having the book was reported a million years ago when he was Denver's coach. This isn't new information. Also, it was a NYT best seller, and was controversial at the time for its title (I was in college when it came out). But, it's about the history and nuance of the word. At worst, it's a half-assed attempt by an older white coach to find a connection with younger black players. but, you know, it's 2026 and literally everything is triggering now.

That’s fine, but there’s interviews online with George Karl talking recklessly about the players he had in Denver.
