The Official NBA Season Thread

One sport specialization at early ages is a bigger contributing factor to injuries than the NBA schedule.

Young players are coming into the league with way more wear and tear than past generations.

If I have a son and he plays I won’t be letting him play spring + summer AAU ball in one calendar year. One or the other and the other season will be spent on conditioning, weight lifting and individuals.

Best bet would be to not play travel ball until the summer of your junior year. Travel ball in middle school isn’t necessary.

I think a lot has to do with how younger folks are consuming NBA. They just watch highlights. Shorter attention spans. What they lose in traditional TV ratings are made up with social media numbers. If anything,, NBA needs to get on the podcast game

College basketball needs to start taking the blame for wear and tear too. Rutgers played 4 games in 6 days.
They played in a tournament :lol every team does this at the end of November. And even more, you play 3-4 games in a weekend in AAU.

I know all of this but only one gets all the blame for injuries. 4 AAU games in a weekend means you’re playing in a low quality event. Thats on the parent. And the European junior level isn’t any less rigorous but again AAU is the boogeyman

Ratings? Why do we care about ratings? Unless the ratings affect your pockets, why is it even a point of concern?

The NBA is fine and will be fine. Ratings will fluctuate, but in the end the NBA will exist and continue putting forth a solid product. It’ll continue to grow in some markets and lose viewership in others—kinda like most any other sport over time.

I just want to watch hoops without all the stupid blackout crap. That’s legit my only gripe about the NBA. If I’m paying for League Pass and YoutubeTV that includes NBA TV, why the hell are nationally broadcast games blacked out in my area? Over the past few years I’ve seen more Hawks/Grizz games IN PERSON than I’ve watched on TV. That’s nuts.
If they cared bout ratings as much as fans do they would kill regional sports networks…The league still being that tied to cable when it’s been dying for years is one of the main reasons for a decline in viewership, it’s simple math

The NBA crushes the NFL on social media, but most still think about sports in the old media way so it hasn’t become a talking point yet

DISSENSION

he’s right though. Why sign Moody to 3yrs/39 million only to have him play 5 minutes? Kerr being cute with 12-13 man lineups worked early season when other teams were figuring out their **** too, but you’re a quarter into the season, you gotta let shooters get their rhythm

No reason why pat spenser, waters and gp2 should have more minutes than Moody

There’s a growing statement of the nba is lacking “get it out the mud” dudes but then they won’t embrace giannis.
I remember talkin about this with my cousin a couple years back watching the man draft. I was like every other player got a momma that played in the WNBA or daddy who played overseas or they parents was collegiate athletes in other sports. I was when this happen? I know it’s been a thing but it feels way more prevalent now.

I mean that’s a shoutout to the growth we’ve seen as a people IMO. Salute to everyone getting it out the mud but it’s a good feeling to come from less mud than your parents.

Yea “the mud” is less of a place you make it out from then a mentality these days …Folks generally ain’t living as hard as back in the day

Ppl don’t look at Giannis like that cuz no hood is respected outside of the US, but alotta these overseas dudes come from tough places and really had to grind
