The Official NBA Season Thread: NBA Cup Night

I do think ben will be fine but damn the internet and people in general are ruthless.

Unless he absolutely disconnects from everything, it must suck to finally be healthy and not be able to put up the numbers and impact the game in general like he used to. Just needs time to adjust to whatever bum *** system Nash is running and he will be ok.

Need curry for some more spacing too

I feel like comparing a player to Draymond Green or the "Draymond Role" is the biggest red flag.

people said "oh put Ben in the Draymond role with shooters"
the Nets have already abandoned that and are just putting him in the dunker

Draymond has massive limitations and makes up for it with HOF level basketball instincts
and really high end intensity and competitiveness.

if you don't have all those elements,
it means your just a player with massive limitations.

The Nets moved him bc they realize he's still not there yet.

They mishandled the situation last year in the playoffs when they said he'd be ready to return when in fact it turned out he actually needed surgery.

It's still in the experimental phase. And tbh, there's no magic that will fix it other than time and more reps on the court.

Lol and like clockwork u guys are now doing it with Ben. It's not Ben's fault Nash can't coach and KD can't lead. Much bigger issues with that team Ben is actually a bright spot but i know y'all love to pile on the scapegoat smh

Ben had that nice play on defense on Luka to send it to OT. And generally held up on switches last night. But that was about as good as it got.

KD and ESPECIALLY Kyrie are working waaaaaay to hard for their shots. And part of it, is this is kinda how KD & especially Kyrie want to play on offense. But they won’t make it through the season playing this way. Obviously, Seth & Joe Harris + whatever TJ Warren is, will help alleviate that. But it’s going to boil down to Ben on offense, clogging **** up. You can’t win that way.

Kyrie had a play in OT. I think they were down two…where he broke down the defender and thought he had a lane to the cup. But Ben’s guy just steps in the gap/driving lane and blows it up. Kyrie kicks it out for a well contested 3 from Royce. And you could see the frustration.

Luka usage way too high btw. They get good shots, but the Harden era Rockets stuff only going to but so far. Work with what you got I guess.

Draymond is a 1 of 1.

Good sign for him. He’s looked motivated lately. Taking advantage of slips/screens and just straight up attacking the rim…because everybody thinks he’ll pass. The fake DHO stuff works too.

But yeah…you really can’t teach Ben to be Draymond. A lot of that is straight up feel for the game, and confidence/intensity and intangibles.

Even when Draymond is selling, you see what the thought process is.

mavs doing what the first iteration of the Cavs with young bron should of done.

just surround that man with competent shooters and luka will lead them to the playoffs every year until he gets tired of losing in the first or second round.

Completely agree.

But people kill me with these unrealistic expectations.

If a bodybuilder was in a car crash and didn't touch weights for a year, do you all think he'd come back and be able to press what he did before the crash?

Even MJ looked like *** when he came back from baseball. It took him until the next year to return to form. And Ben ain't no MJ.
Y’all acting like dude was paralyzed.

He didn’t have another sport occupying his time.

He had a whole season and 2 offseasons to practice basketball. Free throws, 3s.

Mans did nothing but play Call of Duty and Dress up to sit on the bench.

Idk that Cavs team was more complete imo. They were better defensively, were one of the best offensive rebounding teams, and Bron didn't have to have the ball all damn game to be effective. Plus they got further. This current Mavs is like a slight worse hardens rockets

National media always focuses on the Nets offense for some reason  It could certainly be better but there’s a much much bigger problem.
They told me Benji was a defensive specialist.

37, 12, 11 from Siakam
38, 8, 7 from Ja
43, 14, 5 from Giannis
41, 11, 14 from Luka

They are ranked dead last in defense. #30 out of 30, & Seth Curry hasn’t even played yet

They’re the bizarro Lakers.

Their games are totaling 250+ points, it’s laughable.

They just don’t have anything in the interior. Durant at this point isn’t gonna be that guy, and even at his very best Simmons was guarding 1-3, the rim protection came from Jo.

They’re gonna run into trouble once the playoffs come and they run into some teams who switch and the Mavs won’t have any other dribblers

Clippers have shown a knack for un-washing certain guys in recent years - so Reggie and Mook Morris for Benjamin. Do it Lawrence.

I would hope the nets would look much better with an elite 3pt shooter in Seth when he gets back.ast night was a step in the right direction for Ben.

The "Simmons just needs to defend & pass" & "Harden doesn't have to be the main guy anymore" takes from last trade deadline were bad then & seem worse now.

Asking two guys, who haven't shown a willingness to change, to change. Okay.
