The Official NBA Season Thread: NBA Cup Night

looking at demar stats and accomplishments, his numbers really don't pop out as a raptor.
i understand toronto doesn't have a long history, so i get it if they decide to.
kyle probably has a better case
If you raise Kyle you gotta raise Kawhi.

There’s no difference between Demar & Kyle’s time in Toronto without Kawhi

Personally, I think you gotta raise all 3

Other than being the default longest tenured Raptor when Kawhi came and put on a historic playoff run, why does he deserve to be the greatest Raptor of all-time? Statistically.

Easy. He was the leader of the only championship team in franchise history.

It's totally different. Kyle was a much much better player than Demar.

Demar was a incredibly overrated player when he was a Raptor, only became good after he left.

Y’all gotta play a real team first. Easy ahh schedule.
But they're winning though right? Treating the game they're supposed to win appropriately. We'd roast them if they were losing these same games. New Orleans isn't weak per se. Rockets aren't bad.

They have some comp on this road trip, so we'll see what time they're on. But the defense and execution and shooting has been consistent and active. The depth has been legit as well. Those things are generally flash in the pan, they're culture and roster based.

Like spiritual leader? Because he wasn’t statistically. He also quiet quit on the team when they traded demar and Kawhi had to ring him in to buy-in.

I don’t even need to really know what actually happened in this situation

But I guarantee Marcus Hayes has done something along the line to dude to deserve it.. and same goes for multiple athletes that play in Philadelphia with that dude

This man saw how far skip got calling Tony romo gay in the 90s got him and BEEN trying life that life
Aikman

Siakam was the 2nd leading scorer on the championship team, behind Kawhi.

Lowry was as much to blame for Lebronto years as Demar

Dubs doing this without chef. Gonna be scary hours when he gets back and has a deep team supporting him. This rebuild on the fly is gonna be fun to watch. We got a deep roster and plenty of trade pieces.

Revenge szn

With every postseason Demar stinker, Lowry was right next to him doing the same thing.

He had something like 30/20 splits when they got swept by Wall & Beal, and that’s just off the top of my head. It’s a long list.

No kawhi, I don’t see a difference.

But this is all moot. All 3 guys are going in the rafters.

Yah he was the leader of the team. we've seen how things have gone when Kawhi is the leader of your team.

Kyle had to save Kawhi whose leg was cooked after the Milwaukee series. Kyle was the best player in the close out game.

you do that, and add a bunch of years of service, you are the greatest raptors in franchise history. especially since his competition is;

Kawhi (only played one season)
Demar (horrible playoff player)
Bosh (not enough wins)
VC (ended badly)

Like I said he’s the goat Raptor by default.

Kawhi won the FMVP and has a top 3 points in a playoff run of ALL-TIME.

Actually Kawhi has 2 fmvps cause he been there and done that before. As well as 2 DPOY.

Only other player who has done that is Hakeem.

You talking crazy about Kawhi rn.

But yes, his knees are cooked.

yah unfortunately I actually watched those games so I don't have to rely on only box scores.

1. Toronto Demar provided literally nothing other than mediocre efficiency scoring, so if he's not scoring, he hurts you in every other aspect of the game.
Lowry even when if he shoots poorly he's still is a winning player, our best lineups were always Lowry+bench units.

2. Lowry's playoff record was hampered by injuries.
Lowry shot poorly in the playoffs series where he was hurt and shot well when he was healthy.

hardcore raptor fans know this, you can read breakdown here.

Demar was basically always bad, no matter what.

when we talk about a franchises greatest player we only talk about the stuff they did in that franchise.

Kareem is better than Magic overall, but Magic is generally considered a better Laker.

\so Kawhis DPOY is as irrelevant as Hakeems DPOYs

And Kawhi’s FMVP > Lowry’s 0 FMVPs

yah thats one season. You aren't going to be the goat Raptor only playing one season.

Sorry. I don't make the rules.
My point is Kawhi did more in his 1 season as a Raptor than Lowry’s whole tenure.

If not for Kawhi, Lowry would be maybe a top 4-5 Raptor.

You’re more or less proving my point as to why Lowry is the most overrated Raptor of all-time.

He's not overrated, he is correctly rated.

being a franchises greatest player is always some combination of peak plus longevity. This is just how it works.

if you wanna live in your own private reality where you can be the franchise GOAT with one load managed season and one playoffs, go ahead and do that.

but in reality, the rest of the world correctly recognizes Lowry as the franchise GOAT. Leader of a champion, best player of the most successful regular season teams and closed out the warriors to win a chip.

that all adds up to GROAT. it's just the reality of the situation .

just because you don't like it doens't mean he's "overrated"

My thoughts on the journalist and the Embiid thing:

1. First of all, Joel Embiid may very well have an injury. If so, he shouldn't have played in the Olympics, because it's not like he picked up an injury in the meantime. You invite a TON of scrutiny if you participate in a physical, high stakes off-season tournament, and then turn around and say you're saving yourself for the playoffs. THEN DON'T PLAY IN THE OLYMPICS. Terrible optics on his part. Kawhi Leonard is another example. Just buzz off with your "injury" nonsense.

2. The columnist has every right to call out Embiid for just deciding to play when he feels like it. The line about his brother wasn't even that bad, honestly, as there was context provided. Also, I can only imagine if 90s-era Peter Vecsey was covering this Sixers team over the past decade. Embiid would have murdered him five years ago. Vecsey was ruthless with the Knicks, even in their 90s heyday. Modern NBA players wouldn't even know what to do with old school NBA writers.

3. Philly Fans: They've been getting robbed blind by ownership and management for over a decade. Don't give money to this franchise. They are not a serious franchise. As he said, he only wants to be there for the playoffs. Okay, then just sit out the regular season entirely and see how it goes. Also, Philly needs to refund its fans for a decade-plus of nonsense. Also, wake me up when Embiid makes it to a conference finals.
