The Official NBA Season Thread: NBA Cup Night

Nash is great if you love the fancy stats and regular season success, but back then and even now that's **** usually doesn't translate for when it counts most. We see every year these greatest most efficient offenses off all time getting to the playoffs and they struggle and aren't nearly able to translate that success.

They keep acting like dude had the capabilities of Steph or D.Rose as a number 1 option.

He was never a number one option. Sometimes he even was a 3rd option. Nash himself knew he needed the sum of the team to make an impact. His 3 counterparts at all stops are hall of farmers or borderline (Amare)

He's nothing without Dirk?
- He leaves Dirk and is the PG of the greatest offense of all time ever.

He's nothing without Amare?
- Amare gets microfracture, Suns don't skip a beat, best offense in basketball, another top 5 GOAT offense season

Nash was the system, he was the primary playmaker, and the #1 option.

Nash was never the #1 option on any team he was a part of :lol :lol :lol

Primary ball handler? Yes.

Dirk, Amare, Kobe always were the #1s on those teams.

The fundamental problem for the Nash deniers;
It's all just a massive coincidence that all these insane offenses, that were so much better than the league average.

With multiple rosters, multiple coaches, over a 10 year span.

all just happen to have Nash as the PG.

it's all just a big coincidence.

Bro, no one is denying or rebuffing this.

All we’re saying is dude was never a #1 option.

He played with 3 elite scorers

Even with Dallas, he was the 3rd option behind Michael Finley :lol

yH unfortunately this isn't true

best post season offenses relative to league average (min 10 games played)

1. 2005 Suns: +16.2
2. 2017 Cavaliers: +13.2
3. 2010 Suns: +12.6
4. 2001 Lakers: +12.2
5. 1995 Suns: +11.5
6. 2016 Cavaliers: +11.4
7. 2017 Warriors: +11.4
8. 1991 Bulls: +11.0
9. 1987 Lakers: +10.5
10. 2009 Nuggets: +10.2

again maybe this is all just a massive coincidence. Nash was just born with a horse shoe attached to his body.
it's just weird that every place he goes and touches the basketball produces one of the greatest offenses of all time.

Funny how he leaves those, guys, or they get hurt, and yet still...all time great offense.

all a coincidence im sure.

He had the volume somewhat back then and was still passive

He never had the ability to be a #1 option offensively

Dirk, Amare, Kobe. He’s absolutely nothing without those guys. Again, he rode the bench his first 4 seasons.

Nash couldn’t do anything without guys like Amare, Kobe or Dirk

He was incapable

Amare missed the entire '05-'06 season other than 3 games and the Suns still had the best offense in the league. Obviously no Dirk or Kobe either.

all a coincidence.

2005 got beat by the Spurs.
2010 got beat by the Lakers.

Why didn't that translate in at least his case, running the greatest offense of all time and can't remember get to the finals? Damn.

Give me GP or Kidd any day.

Using D rose as an example? What did he accomplish Nash didn’t?

because there are two sides of the court, having an all time great offense doesn't guarantee victory.
especially in the mid to late 2000's.

And what was a huge reason why they were deficient defensively to that point? You're almost there...

All time great offenses > rings/playoff success

Here is the problem, we were all alive during Kidd's Nets finals runs,
we saw it,

Kidd making it through a horrible eastern conference and getting vaporized by the lakers in the finals.
im supposed to give Nash more credit for that, then Nash getting beat by way better western conference team?

yah no one who lived through that and watched it really believes that.

it just wasn't a huge reason. almost no PG is a huge reason for defensive performance.

it's by far the least impactful defensive position.

Suns had enough to win in 2007. Mavs weren't quite ready during his stint, Suns too small/shallow in 2005, too injured in 2006 then changed their identity in 2008-2009. 2010 was an unexpected, good effort.

People forget a big reason why the Suns traded Kidd in the first place (besides the domestic abuse) was because he was leading them to purgatory in maybe a first round win and then getting booted.

“Weak” East but Nash had the BEST OFFENSES of all time and never got to the finals  out west. All that offense, all for naught

… Kidd averaged 20 and 9 that finals…

He averaged 19 and 7 against the Spurs in the finals too. He did his part

Why did Nash ride the bench his first four seasons? Why’d he get traded to the Lakers? Same thing… lead a great offense but got booted in the playoffs. Nash ironically had PHX in purgatory as well

Nash ain’t start until his 4th season
