The Official NBA Season Thread: Happy Thanksgiving 🦃

Kings are low key cooked.

Keegan hasnt developed and might have regressed. Their two stars are in their prime and together their ceiling right now might be a play-in team.

They might be the worst team in their div.

I don't recall a Mitch injury, but Mitch couldn't play his way out of a first round if his life depended on it, let alone make the playoffs. He played all four games, and got one, but he was below his season average scoring, and there was a prime GP (who was DPOY) and Nate McMillan off the bench, who was a defensive menace as well. He went to the Bullets in an all-time bad trade for C-Webb, and his numbers dropped. At the end of the day, Mitch was just never built for the playoffs, and just a good stats, bad team guy.

Also, Mitch making the Basketball HOF still drives me insane. If he's in, why isn't Shawn Kemp in? Same number of All-Star games, much better MVP voting finishes across multiple seasons, and even finished 6th in DPOY voting once, and outplayed MJ the 1996 Finals, getting three votes for MVP. Richmond made the playoffs once in Sacramento. He won nine playoff GAMES in his career. Eight of those came with the Warriors, but he was second fiddle to Chris Mullin. His two-minute cameo appearance with the Lakers in 2001 doesn't count. I just don't get it.
Mitch played 11 minutes in G4 and left with an ankle injury in the first half but didn’t return. He ended the postseason under his scoring average because of the injury, prior to it he averaged 26 ppg the first 3 games, above his regular season average of 23 ppg. But I couldn’t tell you why Mitch is in the HoF and Reign Man isn’t, he should be. But I do know Mitch was a 6-time all-star and 5-time All-NBA. Every one of those came when he played in Sacramento.

Yes, Mitch only played in one postseason series during his time with Sacramento, but the supporting cast was absolute trash. He had the likes of Spud Webb, Lionel Simmons, Duane Causwell, Jim Les, Pete Chilcutt, Bobby Hurley, and the infamous Randy Brown. His best running mates were Olden Polynice, Wayman Tisdale, and Walt Williams. Those are some really bad teams.

This is the 40th season as a franchise in Sacramento, the Kings have been to the playoffs a grand total of 11 times, 8 of those times were Rick Adelman. If you take Chris Webber out of the equation the Kings have made the playoffs 5 times in 40 seasons. Pitiful.

How is this sustainable?
It’s not. Malik Monk is injured. Devin Carter is an unknown but he’s also injured. Trey Lyles and Alex Len need to be upgraded. Keon Ellis is superb defensively but isn’t much on the offensive end. Dougie McBuckets can’t even see the floor, and Colby Jones is just a guy.

The Kings are actually, to this point, not a bad defensive team overall and they’ve improved their rebounding and free throws. What woes them is 3 point shooting, both on the offense and defense. Keegan Murray and Kevin Huerter are supposed to be the floor spacers but they combined to go 2/10 from beyond the arc. Huerter went 1/5 from 3 and 4/8 overall. He made all his shots inside the arc. He should shoot mid range a lot more but that makes it even more crowded. Ideally he should come off the bench with Monk. As for Murray, I don’t know. Last night was the first time this season he didn’t look lost or disinterested. But yeah, he’s been mid so far.
