It was just an unnecessary move. Perkins was completely out of place and had no contest. Nobody else was contesting either. I think it's one of the most overrated plays of all time.

Watching it live at the time, he took off too far and the defense close enough that he hesitated. Once that happened, he made the best out of a bad situation. It was a great move. Wasn't intentional & that was obvious at the time, but as usual he made it something unforgettable.
