The Official NBA Season Thread: Happy New Years

Houston just paid Jalen Green 100+million, he'll be paid 30+mil/yr, same as Sengun next year and be the most expensive player on Houstons' roster the following year, 2026-27. We're 3, going on 4 years now of high volume, low efficiency (A lot of bad shots). Other players with lower efficiency (Trae, Harden etc.) are able to be effective because they still have higher true shooting/effective FG% by getting to the free throw line and creating for teammates. Green doesn't do that, and hasn't really gotten better. Every year it's "He's still young and got potential".

Houston needs to focus on building around Sengun, Amen, Tari and I still think Jabari Smith can be a rotation player. Problem is they've overpaid Jalen green, Dillon Brooks, and FVV. If they start trimming the fat, Houston can be a contender

maybe cheaper adults. They got too many overpaid ets who also aren't really all that good and young players still on rookie scale or 1st exension. They should have leaned into tanking. You can get a Juwan Howard type for the minimum or add to your bench in a suit
Honestly neither contract is bad. I say Brooks has exceeded expectations and FVV has given us stability at arguably the most important position in basketball.

VanVleet is basically an expiring after this season as well.

You don't think they've had enough time to develop, specifically Green/Bari/Sengun? The jury is still out on the others honestly.
Jabari is in his 3rd year. Rebounds and plays defense. Not living up to what you want out of a top 3 pick, but worst case scrnario he’s a pretty useful role player as a 6’10” dude that plays defense, rebounds, and you have to respect from 3.

Have said my piece on Green. Scorer who is inconsistent and brings nothing else to the table.

Love Sengun, but having a 5 that doesn’t affect the game defensively is tough. And he isn’t dominant offensively like the top tier guys. He’s basically in the same mold as Domas.

Ultimately I just think it’s kind of weird that they paid top dollar to add average vets to a team with no real stars. And Ime plays them like 35 minutes a game.

Maybe their contracts along with picks can be flipped for a young-ish star though. #WaitAndSee
