it might have something to do with the old dutch 250 and 1000 gulden banknotes, that were the largest banknotes we used in the netherlands before the Euro currency got introduced in 2000 and also the design from the patta insole took inspiration from the 5 gulden coin and that was also the largest gulden coin here in the netherlands

Did it suck to travel around pre Euro? Maybe it wasn't so bad for the locals, but I'd think it would be a nightmare for someone doing a European tour, and needing different money for every country.

nah it wasnt that bad imo, just before you travel to another country go to your local currency exchange office to change your currency and your good to go, at most larger trainstations you can find them

Worst part was trying to figure out the exchange rate? 20,000 lira for a pint of lager? Is that cheap, or not? Have I just tipped someone a week's wages in peso's?

Yeah, my pair looks like that too. Considering of letting them go.

Have you tried stuffing them and/or using a shoe tree? I've had good luck removing mesh creases like that in the past by getting the mesh damp (or steam) then overstuffing or using an aggressive shoe tree. Once it dries the creases aren't noticeable, especially after a few wears.

I'll give that a try this weekend. Thanks, brother. Hope you and the fam are well!
