THE OFFICIAL AIR MAX 1 THREAD

I read somewhere that the only way to combat polyurethane decomposition is to vacuum seal in a stainless steel container full of argon. Its the humidity that seems to attribute most to accelerating the process known as hydrolysis, the arch enemy of collecting and polyurethane. Theyre doing research to find better foams because the same foams are used to insulate storage tanks, maybe theyll apply the future products to sneakers!

There was a DS pair of OG laser blues, posted in the 90s thread recently.. My first thought was, wonder how they'd been stored, slight yellowing but for a shoe that age they looked good. Doesn't seem to be any definitive answer to the storage conundrum. Mine are in open zip locks (in original boxes) in a dark room.. minimal humidity since it's the uk..

Are you guys storing your shoes in a temperature controlled environment? Being serious w/ this question

I feel like storing shoes in a humid place can have that affect. I have a dehumidifier I dump out routinely and make sure it’s running

Not to say that I have any grails or limited pairs like you do but I want to make sure I take care of them. Have about one or two pairs I have yet to wear and a few that haven’t seen the sunlight in months.

For any pairs you’re truly concerned about color fading/ longevity my recommendation is to look into 3m moisture barrier bags. I prefer using it to zip loc bags as additionally it does an outstanding job in preventing color fading from UV (especially if stored in clear containers).

This.. I picked up 20+ anniversary pairs, can't be without OG red, royals and obsidians. Should all be turned to beaters by 2027 lol. On the other hand I do have some DS lemonade 90s which won't be rocked.

Whoa, you're not counting on them being retro'd very often?

Nah.. I'd waited too long for decent AM1 OG retros, favourite shoe. Always have all 3 in rotation and they go beater status every year and a half or so. Not holding my breath for another retro... How long was it, 2009 dark era shape to 2017 new old shape? Think there was a vintage red in 2013 but shape was gash on that as well. About 3 pairs are Aqua which I don't tend to rock so much (still a dope shoe tho).

All valid points. I guess the fact that I'm always chasing so many pairs keeps me from worrying about one (or 3 in your case) specific pair.

In my opinion the anniversary retros were perfect. Two sets of laces, retro style box, good materials, good shape. I don't care if they're not exact replicas of 1987s, HOAs, whatever. For what they are they're perfect.

PLEASE don't talk to me about differences between 100 and 103 and millimeter mudguards.

Biggest "problem" I have with mine is the creases/indentions/camel toe in the mudguard that seem to be present in so many pairs of recent AM1's since the reshape.

They're some of my favorite shoes i own, and I cant see anything really making them better to me, either.

Yea so I stuck with my promise and tried to wear my red annis everyday for the last several months. They’re beat and I love them! I’ll post a pic later...

I have one pair on ice but I hesitate to wear them. I’m pissed I didn’t get more at those $100 sale prices awhile ago. Lowest ask in a 12 is 220. Smh

Although I have them I think Nike overdid things a tiny bit on the Anniversarys.

For a shoe that is more or less supposed to mimic a performance running shoe, Annis almost feel bulky.

Suede is nice, but maybe a bit too thick, too nice. Mesh too. Laces were awful, the added laces were slightly better but still a bit stiff.
The white painting on the midsoles just a bit too glossy & shiny.

I have a few GRs that feel way more lightweight f.e. the Gunsmokes and the Pumice/Gym Blues, and they don't have shiny midsoles
Using that type of build the Annis would have been better imo.
