I think that on some materials the reshape does not return after wear (or just a little bit but that's normal it fits your foot and when you walk), only the felt does not hold very well, for me the top is the suede for reshape (air max 1 premium for example), after you can always reshape a little bit every 3/6 months or when you feel the need it's really easy (the leather I can not tell you I've only reshape one old air max 90 pair and it was very light, my 2017 leather AM1 pairs didn't require reshape)
but I'm not an expert on reshape, I mostly reshape 2018 premium Air max 1 shoes with premium suede, the suede you can really give it the shape you want, and on my pairs for the moment it holds (no return after wear), for example my last little reshape
