In my opinion, unless the newer retro is absolute trash, the older retro becomes almost valueless if it's unwearable, except for collectors who value the fact that it was OG, and don't plan on wearing them. That's why Jordan from Shoezeum was so smart to dump his collection with all the re-retros accellerating. Even though previous retros were often better quality or more precise in details to the OGs, they're just not far enough off to be worth buying; better off buying a newer version that is wearable.
The only reason I say that is because the quality of the 2017 pair won't be the same as it was in 2006. Even then you run the risk of that sole falling apart
