It takes a druggie to know a druggie I guess.
The news comes after a day full of rumors that Jones would be pulled from the event. The rumored story took twists and turns, including talk of Jones being arrested for DUI and suffering injuries.
MMAjunkie today spoke to representatives from the Albuquerque Police Department. They made it clear Jones had not been arrested. Reps confirmed, as of Sunday evening, no warrant had been issued for Jones’ arrest and that he is wanted only for questioning in a hit-and-run in which a woman’s car was struck Sunday morning. The woman was taken to the hospital with “non-life threatening injuries,” according to one police department rep.
Police have not been able to locate Jones, and other reports state he’s been unreachable for more than 24 hours.
The fight with Johnson will be Jones’ first fight since the controversy surrounding his UFC 182 bout with Daniel Cormier. While Jones, the No. 1 ranked fighter in the USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie MMA pound-for-pound rankings, defeated Cormier by unanimous decision, he also tested positive for cocaine in a pre-fight drug test.
Jones received a $25,000 fine for the failed test while the UFC commended Jones for his decision to enter a drug-treatment facility. That stay lasted only one night, according to the fighter’s mother. Jones was also arrested for DUI in May 2012.
