The MMA Thread: DON'T ASK 4 STREAMS & NO GIFS- Cannonier, Imavov, Reyes, Rosas on NOW

Why is it Dana won't let DJ get a super fight at 135 but gave conor one immediately after beating Aldo. Then gives him another one after he loses to nate. Meanwhile DJ has run thru everyone like butter...

the fight is on the table if DJ wants it. he just isnt going to be paid what he is asking for 1M+
tj wanted to fight him at 135 awhile back, but DJ declined it

there's a reason why the 125 guys are on fox

Every time an elite fighter loses to another elite fighter we hear fraud and silly stuff like that. Seems like to some folks on here that you're either champ or trash

Jacare went up against a top guy, he's still one of the best in the world

As far as Conor, we all know he isn't playing by the same rules as anyone else, he does what he chooses now. We all know that DJ is the most not cared about champ, good luck getting that million dollar fight

For DJ, I'd say they could do Pettis if he defeats Cejudo in May

Perhaps Ray Borg

I've been reading Benevidez... I don't want to see that again

As much as I dislike Dana, he might be trying to protect DJ's legacy by not letting him fight for the 135lb belt yet.

He just tied the record and Dana commented afterward saying he should continue to smash the title defense record until it is unbreakable and then go for the 135lb title.

I can't disagree because if he steps up to 135 and loses people won't see his future defenses at 125 as an undefeated run setting the record for title defenses.

The only thing is I wouldn't want dude to wait too long to try that 135 superfight. Peak DJ vs whoever is champ at 135 would be very interesting.

BUT, I do also agree with just letting him run through challengers for a little bit and breaking records. I think the streak + the accolades from other fighters and analysts + actually stopping dudes is kinda starting to add to his drawing power with casual fans, which he desperately needs.

so i just watched the card now

DJs takedown defense makes me laugh, like its so incomprehensibly good it makes me chuckle when guys even try, hes so good at pogo sticking on that back leg to sneak out the side as you try and fall on him.

hes like a greased pig... that can knock you block off and submit you at will lol

he most likely learned his pogo stick technique from matt hughes. that takedown defense was no joke

Yup wouldnt doubt it. I hope he doesnt get too comfortable just dismissing the idea of getting taken to his back though. I think best version of mighty mouse uses his distance and striking and mixing it up but hes so confident everywhere he jus smothers guys and overwhelms them with strikes not giving two dambs about a counter double/single leg coming in

This Right here. Its funny how very few pick Jacare to loss but when he does he is a joke. Thing that's tough about fighting is that you cannot have an off night. Other sports an off night is ok because there is another game the next week or even day. MMA you don't fight for another 3-6 months depending on various factors.

In all honesty im not even sure if it was an off night for Jacare. Whittaker deserves the credit.

Jacare is still a top middleweight and I still want to see him fight romero again. That was a good close fight last time.

Only a matter of time before they call Whittaker a fraud

MW has some clarity now. They can easily make an interim fight with Yoel involving either Whittaker or Mousasi. I hope they do

Still have interesting fights they can make with the others coming off losses-- Rockhold, Jacare, Weidman

I wouldn't call him a fraud. There's just a lot of parity in MW at the top. It's a any given Sunday situation.

They might as well create the interim belt. It would be like the WBA and WBC belt being in the UFC. Weidman, Romero, Sousa, Rockhold, Mousasi and Whitaker on the outside.

WW, BW female, LW, HW and MW are all in similar situations.

Exposed is a better word than fraud in this sport in my opinion, unless you're talking about the 206.2lb champ. Even then the word gets thrown around a little too much.

The women's divisions are where the frauds and unworthy thrive nowadays. The divisions are so shallow that literally anybody can get a title shot. Rose's 1 win last night was a good showing but she's 6-3 in MMA with only win separating her from her loss to the most recent title challenger that failed to get the gold. You would never see a man with less than 10 fights with 33% being losses getting a title shot.

When you go on a streak like Jacare did and put up a solid performance against someone like Yoel Romero, there's no shame in losing to another top contender who was also on a long streak

Bet someone would have said Tony or Khabib would have been "exposed" after one of them lost when they were supposed to fight

Idk, I just think it's a lil critical. Every athlete in any sport has a weakness, no champ is perfect at everything. Not everyone is going to go undefeated

I just think it's parity.

MW was dominated by Spider for a minute. Then Weidman came along for a minute. At the time, Rockhold, Sousa, Romero and Mousasi were coming up in the rankings. The division caught up and there's no clear dominant athlete.

Same goes for WW after GSP relinquished his title.

I wouldn't call the women's divisions fraudulent just new. The competition isn't there yet. And there's not enough competent competitors yet.

Nunes hasn't fought since December (nor should she). JJ is dominating her division at the moment (her striking is so crisp). I'd like to see her against Thug Rose. It would be a bloody mess. And obviously FW is a sham.

Actually the 135 title fights been on fox more recently. Tj\barao, tj/Cruz. DJ been on ppv last few

And it isn't on the table according to Dana which is why I brought up the topic.

Why is it ok for mcnugget to move up immediately after winning g at 145 but DJ who's cleared out the division cant.. And ppl can think its cuz of his drawing power but conor vs does anjos was not bigger than Aldo rematch or Edgar fight

McNugget is bringing lines of folks to McDonalds.

Despite some Twitch video game nerds, DJ doesn't.

McNugget served up a Big Mac to Waldo real quick. He was in that way compelling war with Diaz. He's a great trash talker, gets the butts in the seats.

It's as simple as that.

I respect DJ. He's making history. Honestly, he looks better than Anderson right now on his title defense streak. He's black. A positive attitude, keeps his nose clean and perennial martial artist. Maybe he should read the book Prince by Makaveli (sp) or watch some pro wrestling from the 80s like Connor and Chael. Nothing wrong with being a company man and carving out a good living.

My point is it's not like it's a monetary gain for the ufc whether Conor was jumping up or fighting another opponent. The Alvarez fight did worse buys wise than the Diaz fight and about same as Aldo. So it's not like him jumping up was bringing more revenue. I'm saying from the challenge aspect why won't they let dj fight esp when he's fought at 135 before in the ufc.

I know he doesn't draw but him vs Cruz 2 could generate hype or winner of tj/Cody

when TJ had the belt it was definitely on the table but DJ wouldnt entertain it since the pay wasn't what he wanted. TJ was fine with the payday.
now that the 135 title is with Cody, there are way more interesting fights for him than DJ since Cody is probably a "bigger" name right now and has the "look"

As impressive as DJ is, Cody got them hands. Giving up the weight advantage to Dom is a little different than giving it up to a dude with really good hands and KO power.

But DJ is still good enough that I'd like to see him try.

Dana probably doesn't care whether or not dj moves up, but dj made it clear from the jump he wants to get paid a mill if he were to go up

I'm not sure if Dana will ever give that pay day to dj but I think he's warming up to it. He's on the dj is the goat train now due to the record
