The Google Phone Vol. HTC made, Nexus One . $279 upgrade price, Verizon(Spring), Syncs w/iTunes!

Invite only? That sucks, i wonder how long it's going to take to be available.

I think the other thread said that Google was making their money by selling ad space, that's why it will be 200 without the need to extend your contract. How much is concrete is the problem.

All those who plan on selling their MyTouch make sure you called Tmobile and ask for it to be unlocked, they unlock your phone for free just inform them youwill be going outta the country.

Unlocked phones usually sell for more money. I sold my used unlocked Curve this year for $130.. no joke.

They can also unlock it themselves if they rather not do that.

Yeah but are they sites that give free unlocked codes?

Doesn't it become unlocked once you root it? I have seen threads on xda-developers mentioning how to unlock it.

I want this phone, but I think I'm gonna stay with Verizon and get the Droid.

I have a question that is probably gonna be stupid. But, they're saying the Nexus One is better than the Droid. What about when people a bunch of peoplebuy it and start clogging up the network? Or will that not be a problem with the OS it's running?

EDIT------What are some credible sites when it comes to new phones and stuff?

Naw when you root the phone that just means you can deviate the operating system which allows to do stuff like tether, multi-touch and etc... NOTuse a different carrier which is the purpose of unlocking.

LeroyTheGreat,

I usually check Boy Genius Report, and Engadget Mobile, as well as TmoNews since I'm on T-Mobile.

Press event for Google's Nexus One scheduled for January 5th

google_press.jpg

In my last post, I predicted that we might hear something from HTC or Google by the end of the week regarding the Nexus One. I guess I was off by a few days. I opened up my email a few minutes ago to find the image above. Google has just sent out invitations to members of the press for an "Android press gathering" which is scheduled for one week from today. The January 5th press event is scheduled to start at 10 am Pacific. The invitation may not say anything about the Nexus One, but the schedule of events clearly indicates that the press will have at least 30 minutes of questions, followed by an hour and a half of demonstration time.

It's a bit odd that Google has chosen to launch the Nexus One the day before CES. It would make sense to have a proper launch of their latest and greatest android phone when all the press from around the globe is gathered at one location. However, launching before CES allows Google to steal the spotlight away from the show before it begins. They won't have any competition or other major announcements to deal with.

Is it just me, or is the excitement growing? I'm not planning on purchasing a Nexus One. I'm patiently holding off for the HTC Bravo, but that could all change once I get some hands-on time with Google's new Android beast.

Breaking News

google_event1.jpg

Well well. Look at this. Taking a page from the CES-challenging Apple / Macworld playbook, Google has announced a press event on January 5th(just like we told you) in Mountain View, stating:
With the launch of the first Android-powered device just over a year ago, we've seen how a powerful, open platform can spur mobile product innovation. And this is just the beginning of what's possible.

Please join us in Mountain View on January 5, for an Android press gathering.

If this lines up with the news we've seen recently, it's likely a Nexus Oneannouncement will be the order of the day, and most (if not all) of your nagging questions will get answered. You know we'll be there live... so hang on toyour hats, and mark down the date!

Anyone got a link or info on where to get started for someone new to an Android 1.5 OS phone?

I just ordered the Samsung M900 (aka Moment) and im wondering what i should know since ive never used a phone with android.

Plans
http://gizmodo.com/5436673/leaked-nexus-one-documents-530-unlocked-180-with-t+mobile

A tipster just sent in these Nexus One screenshots that supposedly confirms two things: that Google will sell it unlocked and unsubsidized for $530, and that Google will sell it by themselves. Plus, some other very interesting details.
Some of the most important bits of info we extracted (assuming the tipster is accurate, and it seems like he is). Oh, and take a look at our hands on with the device in case you haven't familiarized yourself with it yet.

• Yeah, it's $530 unsubsidized. Google's not going to be selling the phone at cost, like so many people considered. They're not going to save us from the "making money off of hardware" culture we've got right now, so this is basically just another Android handset, albeit a really good one
• If you want it subsidized, you'll have to sign up for a 2 year mandatory contract and pay $180 for the phone
• There's only one rate plan: $39.99 Even More + Text + Web for $79.99 total
• Existing customers cannot keep their plan if they want a subsidized phone; they have to change to the one plan, and this only applies to accounts with one single line
• If that doesn't fly with you, you have to buy the $530 unlocked version-this actually might save you money over two years if you already have a cheap plan
• Family plans, Flexpay, SmartAccess and KidConnect subscribers must buy the phone unlocked and unsubsidized for $530
• You can only buy five Nexus One phones per Google account
• There is language in the agreement of shipping outside the US
• Google will sell it at google.com/phone, which explains what they were doing with that page a few weeks ago
• Google will still call it the Nexus One apparently, and not the Google Phone

And here is a big one:
• If you cancel your plan before 120 days, you have to pay the subsidy difference between what you paid and the unsubsidized price, so $350 in this case. Or you can return the phone to Google. You also authorize them to charge this directly to your credit card.

One weirdness in the Terms of Sale that we quickly glanced through was that Google made sure you acknowledged that the manufacturer is HTC, and not Google.

That's kind of a let down. My on AT&T, buying the phone from T-Mobile would prob cost me like $350-500. I remember seeing some unlockedones going for like $900

I think anyone hoping for that rumored 200 unsubsidized will be disappointed.

They shouldn't be surprised, though, because that would have been an insane steal.

Strange that they only will allow one rate plan if you buy it subsidized.

Oh well, I was keeping an eye on this but I went with a BB 9700 yesterday, I just need a physical keyboard.

Just to clear things up, the Landing page is considered a rumor......there's still some hope *crosses fingers*

i was really looking forward to this.. but looks like i'll have to pass if the price stays the same.

i wouldn't mind the contract itself but changing the plan i have now to something that's $79.99 sucks.

Word. I'm still not sure who actually believed this. Why would they sell an unlocked phone for $200? And a smartphone at that?

I was thinking more along the lines of $400ish, but $530 is definitely a feasible price for this device unlocked and without a contract.
