Just depends on that I'm trying to catch

In the Sac River fishing from shore, I use night crawler, blood worms, cut sardines, chicken liver, and crawdads for Stripers. IMO soft shell crawdad and blood worms works best. Also I use Flying C for King Salmon. Shad Darts for Shads

In the ocean around SF/Santa Cruz when I'm surf fishing for Stripers I use SP minnows or i rig up a Carolina rig with sand crabs that you can find in the sand and try to catch Stripers/Perch with them.

For Dungeness Crab/rock crabs I fill the cages with squid, chicken, Sardines, or shad that was caught in Sac river but crabs aren't picky.

Rock fish/Cabezon/Ling Cods I like using squid or whole anchovies. I also use big hammers lures when my buddy used to have a boat. it works well

Halibut I use a 3 way with like live bait that I freshly caught like anchovies or Pacific Mackerel. I like to use Sabiki rig in a size 7 or 8 tipped with shrimp on the hook to catch these bait fishes. Even Better if you have a Cast net. Pacific Mackerel still around Santa Cruz area/pier as of last week.

When the season starts in a few months, I need to buy another pole for Dungeness Crabbing. I broke it last week on the last day for Dungeness Crabbing at Half Moon Bay Jetty trying to reel in 3 crabs . Had my eye on one at Sports Authority but someone bought it. I was waiting for it to hit 40 percent off lol

Man i havent been fishing in a loooonnnnggggg time. Im in LA and i used to roll with my uncle and his co-worker. We would cross the border into mexico just to fish the canals for catfish. Guaranteed to have 20 plus fish every trip. Fishing at night is when i caught most of my fish. My uncle co-worker was special bro. He was the type that could just look at the water and smell the air and knew if the spot was gonna have a lot of fish or to move on. It was amazing he had that type of instinct. The biggest fish we caught (my uncle catch) was a 32lb flathead catfish from a spot that was about 45 mins from the cali mexico border. I want to go back there so bad but ive been told you cant access that part of the river anymore. It's called The New River. Im gonna search my old pics to see if i could find some.

Am I being stingy not wanting to share my rod with a friend who constantly goes fishing with Me? The way he treats my rods got my in my feels lol

I trust my friends/family to not abuse my ****. If I'm fishing with someone I don't know all that well (aka friend of a friend) and they need to borrow some gear, I let them use one of my ugly stiks or something along those lines. 

I need to go through my tackle box and clean that joint out. I know I have a bunch of old plastics and whatnot that probably need to get thrown out. 

Anybody ever order off of tacklewarehouse.com? I used to get shipments from them like every other week back when I was heavy in the bass game lol.

i cut way back on buying stuff when my son was born 3.5 years ago. this year i only bought new braided line for my reel, a fancy japanese aerator for live bait and some hooks. it's been great that my wife bought me a gopro and is good about me going. went 4 times in the last few months and i'll try and get a few more in before the bait that comes in each summer get too big to use.

Steelhead will be full swing for me soon. Caught hundreds of bass this summer bunch of pike. I spend about a $1000 a year on fishing got a kid on the way wife will stop me soon... lol

Why not? I'm moving back to Sac pretty soon here and want to get back into it.

Sadly, my 2 rods Salmon rods were stolen few weeks ago at Half moon Bay. They took it out of my friends truck while we were at Sams Chowder restaurant. I don't feel like spending another 4 hundred on a pole and reel ...I might have to go buy one of those cheap Walmart ones and see how it goes. But it looks like its going to be cooling down next week and another wave of Salmon should be passing by. I was out scouting at Paradise Beach by Sac State and they were catching a few Salmon this morning. The Salmon still had nice chrome colors on them.

Fozz Since you don't live here anymore, what are some good spots in sac to fish ...its cool if you don't wanna give it up lol

 Man, the best place that I've been able to catch fish is along the river near the freeport bridge. Only thing is, a lot of folks are out there, so I just was mindful of their 'space' when I fished. You can drive along the river and find a couple of spots to park and walk down to fish. Just be aware of some homeless folks who live along the river or drifters trying to get hooked up with some food or cash.

It's worth it though ..

I'm sure it is. I just didn't think it would be an expensive hobby to pick up. I have too many hobbies lol.

Just have good self control and you won't end up with too many lures etc .. But it does help to have more then one rod for easy switch of bait / lure to use though ..

It's an expensive start up.. once you have the stuff you need you can re-use most of it.

The only things you'll really need to constantly buy are line, lures, and bait. And a yearly fishing license. (Idk about anywhere else, but Cali you need one)

The rods and reels are the expensive part if you're constantly buying them.

Winds were 40+ mph .. But caught my personal best of 4 lbs 1 oz on a lipless crankbait


Ugly stiks are great too if your worried about your rod being abused .. Ive caught a 1 foot or Leopard shark on a 4.5 ft ugly stiks , forgot the line used but it was on a ghost shrimp or squid maybe mackerel

Now its winter time in Canada, lots of snow...I dont practice ice fishing tho. How you guys do in winter time ? Do you fish or prepare yourselves for next season ?

I personnaly prepare all my gear for next season, build some stuff and dig for good deals for fishing related products.
I am in the process of building my first beach cart and some plugs for surf fishing.
