It's rough. I've been working odd jobs just trying to keep my head above water.

One of the things I miss from growing up in a small farming town is there was ALWAYS a job at one of the cranberry marshes. The marsh owners were millionaires and always hired people that were hurting for work to do jobs like sorting cranberries and would literally let anybody that was struggling come in and would pay them a lot more than they had to and work any hours they could. Now I can't even get an interview for a job I could have done 10 years ago

unemployed since july 08. i cant even get a restaurant job so im hoping this grad school lands me a job in may 2011. i may "dumb down" aka omit items from my resume to see if i can atleast get part time work while in school. btw my wife and i live with her parents. i had to swallow my pride bc i lived on my own since i was 18 (im 30 now). i went from pulling in 55k (i know thats not ballin but in NC i was living a great life) a year to getting a $20 weekly allowance from my wife. i know some people may see me as a scrub but i dont give a crap what they think. im thankful i have a roof over my head, car paid off that runs well, food, and an opportunity with grad school. i cant even imagine having to pay a mortgage, car note, and having kids right now. my last major purhase was a $100 suit from target for job interviews.
all of yall struggling right now keep your head up for real. i hope with the free time some of you have you get a chance to follow politics and public policy. true colors come out and every politician is the cotdamn same.

I saw this special on ABC or NBC (w.e. who cares?) and I just wondered why didn't these people just sell their house while they could and bought some apartment and at the same time have 800k left over???

so if you're looking for a job you might want to go to USA jobs and look for that.

They lady I work w/ told me that they hirin heavy for Border Patrol and pushin ppl through way faster than usual. That and the Air Marshall like somebody posted before.

Also, hotels are hiring, high turnover rate, always jobs in hotels. I know it's hard out there fellas, gotta keep hope alive

thats just the problem, most of those people dont have their houses paid off-probably still paying off a 15 or 30 year interest plan. without the house paid off, most of that money would go to paying back the bank. if they really cant pay, then i guess house gets foreclosed? 
but i guess its a diff story if they're just renting the houses...

but yea unemployment is hard right now. only one of my friends landed a job out of college. im doing the chef thing, so its a different road...been apprenticing unpaid for a month now...which is going to continue for a while. but i hope all this grinding and resume building will help me in the future. Also, i feel like being unemployed is also a time to learn something-for example im trying to get a nutritionist certificate(to be able to consult restaurants,hotels...etc.) and learn the guitar.  hopefully i can pull a part timer to get some extra $
