J Kidd's game aged really well. He played a year to long though.
But on the 2011 Mavs and 2012 Knicks...he was the right blend of floor general, 3pt threat, and strong defender,
J Kidd at 39 was basically a prime Derrick Fisher lol.
That leadership, defense and shot making is always valuable.

He did, but according to some article, DJ was persistent on thinking he made the wrong call. At that point, Blake knew he had to make it happen.
Blake was probably just being a good friend, but deep down, he wanted DJ back in the worst way.

One thing I noticed watching summer league and DRuss is he doesn't look comfortable with Clarkson being the primary ball handler/main scorer. Something for the first time in his life he's had to play 2nd fiddle basically. Add Kobe to that mix and

i thought the same thing. Just uncomfortable. He better get use to it though. Its going to be JC's team real soon. Russell better be extremely good

Kidd was important but you were making it out to be he was in his prime. He was solid but lets not go overboard.

What a slap in the face to Jason Kidd man. Wow.
Next you're gonna throw his box score stats at me like that properly represented all of his value to the team.
Williams doesn't have half of the heart Kidd had & even at 37, Kidd was still a better floor general than Williams. His vision & ability to deliver the ball was still superior to D Will right now.
Dude was even checking Kobe & Westbrook & holding his own.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Jason Kidd while he was here, an am extremely grateful for what he brought to the club. But prior to 2011, he did not garner any respect from anyone outside of Dallas. Excellent floor general, good defender, but people questioned him at the time.
2011 in my mind is forever indebted to Tyson Chandler. It was his passion and dedication to our franchise that won us that championship. Of course Dirk was the Finals MVP, but Tyson was the biggest proponent to winning that year. I'd even argue that Jason Terry was just as valuable to that squad that year too. 48/44/84 in the Playoffs to go with 18 PPG, including a phenomenal 27 in the closeout game. People don't talk about him much, but Shawn Marion was also great that year. They talk about the defense of Tyson and Jason Kidd (who handled some awesome mismatches), but Shawn Marion drew the call against Kobe, Durant, and LeBron, and whoever was needed when the game was on the line.
My point with this is that Jason Kidd was phenomenal for us, but we had a ton of guys step up big time for us. Hell, Peja Stojakovic had a great series for us that year.
Deron will be given an opportunity to bounce back. A ton of guys we've brought in recent years has been questioned when we brought them in, but they turned out alright.
Tyson Chandler was done when he got him in 2010. Monte Ellis was an inefficient knucklehead when he came in 2013. I'm not saying I'm expecting a career year from Deron, but he will be given the opportunity to shine. With Wes and Chandler Parsons, he'll have every opportunity to do well because neither of those guys are super greedy with the ball.
Then again, all three of those guys could go down in January, and the Mavericks will be stuck starting Devin Harris, Richard Jefferson, Anderson, Dirk, and Ryan Hollins.

None of those guys were physically sapped of their abilities like Deron has. He can carve out a niche but he won't revert to anywhere near what he once was.

That's something I'll forever be proud of. We faced the toughest gauntlet on the road to a Championship.
For 2011, our guys beat LaMarcus Aldridge, Wesley Matthews, Nic Batum, Brandon Roy, Pau Gasol, Kobe Bryant, Andrew Bynum, Ron World Peace, Lamar Odom, Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden, Serge Ibaka, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh.
IIRC, NONE of those guys were even remotely injured.
It was a blast.

I heard the same thing about Tyson Chandler man. Not trying to gloat and say Deron Williams is going to be an All-star next year. I'm really not. But a return to form enough where he can produce again? And not be terrible?
That's all I want. If he's not terrible, I'm happy. Mediocre? Fine. Sub-par? Sure. Less than ideal? Cool. Pretty bad? I can handle it.
And if he IS terrible? Then we cut him loose and let him try and figure it out again elsewhere (ala Rondo).
I personally don't foresee the Rondo headache happening in Dallas though, from a personnel standpoint. Rondo and Ellis were never going to work out. Wes isn't that kind of player that Monta is.
