Clippers are def better than the past two years, not sure how their window is already closed

No dude, even clipper fans would tell you that rivers and Crawford are/were trash. Lance is a wildcard but coming off the season he had you can't rely on him to contribute. You say I'm looking at one season of lance but he only had one real standout year with indy. Again he's a wildcard as is Josh smith who completely torpedoed one team while being up and down with another. Nothing about their bench is outstanding, they still have many of the same flaws as last year
They're trash in the scope of, if they're the best players off your bench, your team could be in some trouble. Which was the case last season

This season Crawford and Rivers will not be their best bench players, Lance and Smith will. That should take a lot of pressure off of Rivers and Crawford automatically

That's the simplistic view you're taking. Looking at things with blinders on

Their flaws last year was that they literally had no back up big man and no creator off the bench. Smith is a big man, Lance can create. Saying they have the same flaws as last year is just puzzling. I don't see why Smith would be the same player he was in Detroit as opposed to the productive player he was in Houston. He took the minimum to come to LA, he has to be focused. They aren't relying on Lance to be a starter so his bench role suits him just fine

Add in the fact that everyone for years has been saying: "if only the Clippers had a competent small forward". PP, even in his older age, will be a nice fit for them and like I said before, will even play the 4 at times. They have NEVER had another post up player besides Blake. That now changes. PP will create new looks for them offensively out of the post. Even if he can't do that too often, it'll be a nice change up to their offense

On paper, the clippers bench looks good. Definitely an upgrade over last years bench.

However, that bench is very combustible. Lance, J-Smoove, Jamal and Rivers are the definition of wild cards. You can't have your whole bench be wild cards lol.

Everything has to go right for the clippers bench to live up to their names on paper. It's very easy to see:
Austin doing stupid ****.
Jamal chucking and playing no D.
J Smoove taking terrible 3,s and long twos.
And Lantz being the bad Lantz from last year.

I think the clips should've really gone after a Cj Watson/Marco Bellinli bench backcourt....but given the lack of flexibility they had....they came out pretty good in the offseason.

You said lance "can go back to being a 6th man where he flourished with Indy"....he started 78 games in his breakout year playing next to two guys who can't hardly dribble in hill and George which is why he flourished because he got minutes+touches+the most shots in his career. The rockets also lacked a playmaker outside of harden so smith benefitted from more touches and now he's on a more crowded team. Also was on an offense that encouraged him to jack shots. You have to take a closer look at the circumstances.

A simplistic view would be saying that garbage player+reduced role=productive player...doesn't really work like that

They had ZERO flexibility and were over the cap. Even if DJ left, they would have still been over the cap

There's no way they afford Marco man

Very combustible but like I said, Smith took the minimum. Lance goes back to a bench role. As combustible as it could be they are in the best situation possible

And he had to share the ball with Paul George and David West out in Indy

Smith and Blake are great passers, it'll be a seamless transition for Smith to get lobs to DJ. Smith can be very unselfish and he's proved he can share the basketball

Seems like without good leadership this team might fall apart.....

If you thought you were eating last year with their loss to Houston, what do you have in store if LAC still doesn't get out of the 2nd round this year?

Van Ho you keep saying lance can go back to being a sixth man. Stop saying that, he was a starter in indy and the best playmaker, his role will be almost the opposite with lac and almost identical to his role in Charlotte where he primarily came off the bench and struggled next to kemba and jefferson

Except instead of playing with Kemba and Jefferson, he gets CP and Blake

Agree. Doc is going to have to do a very good coaching job this season. On paper, he redeemed himself a bit as a GM this Summer, but its not going to mean much if Doc the coach doesn't get everyone to buy in and manage the minutes well.

You're not understanding. He was good with the ball in his hands playing with guys like george hill paul george David west....those guys are not great ballhandlers so he had a bigger role in the offense. He will never be on the court without cp/blake/pierce/austin/jamal, guys he will have to share ballhandling duties with. He struggled sharing the ball with a guy who can dribble in kemba, a guy who demands post touches in Jeff and he struggled when they moved him to the bench with limited minutes and touches which will likely be his role with the clippers. All indications would point to him struggling based on prior evidence

Good thing for LAC is that they are unselfish to a fault. CP, Blake especially. Lance will like playing with them. Crawford and Rivers proved they cannot create offense, so Lance will help them in that regard

Also, if you don't think that

Austin/Prigioni
Lance/Crawford
Wes Johnson
Josh Smith
Aldrich/Hayes

is better than

Farmar/Austin/Random 10 Day guy
Crawford
(Don't even remember who the back-up 3 was)
Big Baby
Hawes/Udoh

I don't know what to tell you.

I do like Dawson as well. It'll be tough for him to find minutes but he's all energy, you can't help but root for him. If Crawford gets traded away, maybe Wilcox can finally show what he's made of

In the likely event the Clippers don't advance past the second round do they finally trade doughboy for depth and enter the Russ sweepstakes in 2017?

I think its something they'll entertain, but it will be easier said than done. Great as he is, given his age and contract, only teams that felt they were a player away from a title would trade for CP. And most teams in that situation don't have a lot to trade. So, IMO, CP is going to be with the Clips until his contract is up.

If clippers fail again and DRuss turns out to be lame it will be a fun summer of the two la teams battling it out for free agent pgs

The writers need to put the blunt down

You guys do know that Kobe has missed significant time due to injury in 3 out of his last 4 seasons, right? I think maybe that's factoring into the analysis.

Tbh I have no idea how good/bad he will be

All I know is when he's healthy he's the most exciting player to watch on our team and for a team not good enough to make the playoffs that's all we have as fans
