Im pretty sure unicef wont care about 2500 since they just recieved a 4 billion check from bill gates... SMH, but ok
Oh really? 4 billion, you say? Wow, I guess that's the end of world hunger, then. I wish I'd known. No need to support those silly AIDS prevention/treatment programs now.

Why not donate to the ghettos?
This was the first of what we hope will be many such contributions.
Clearly, many of our members care about the pandemic spread of AIDS in Africa and UNICEF does a lot of work in that area. Members were also concerned about the 2004 tsunami that struck Southeast Asia - and UNICEF was a prominent contributor to relief efforts there as well. It's a charity that we felt everyone could support.
We will be making donations to a variety of organizations intended to benefit the impoverished residents of America's inner cities, but rather than send ten different organizations a check for $250, we're concentrating our efforts on one major donation each month.
We have over 50,000 members. Each person has a different set of priorities. If, in any given month, the charity we wind up supporting doesn't rank among your favorites - it's better to think to yourself, "well, it's still a good cause and it's important to a lot of people out there. Next month they'll choose something else and I'm glad that doing something as simple and easy as visiting NikeTalk and clicking on a banner ad is contributing to something positive" than to pout.
I'd love it if everyone supported EVERY donation we made - but unfortunately that's simply not possible. Sadly, there will be some people out there who will be disappointed when we donate to minority scholarship funds or women's shelters - but we can't let that restrict the scope of our donation program. We may not be able to support a cause you LOVE every single time out, but we certainly hope that you will feel represented at least at some point during the course of the program.
Remember, too, that no one is preventing YOU from taking the initiative and supporting the cause(s) of your choice. NikeTalk's staff members essentially gave up their pay for this.

some n' probably gone to get a nice set of clubs off the back of that cheque
I doubt it. You can see the check for yourselves. UNICEF has developed a pretty good reputation over the last 60 years. I don't think they're going to cut and run for $2,500.

so if i just click the ad it would help NT get money?
That's the idea. A site as popular as NikeTalk is expensive to run, and advertising pays for the costs of this site first and foremost. The money we raise above and beyond those costs will be donated to charity.

damn when i read the title i thought it was gonna say the United Negro College fund.
At some point, it will. Stay tuned.

do you guys plan on doing this again?
We'd like to make a donation of this size or larger every month.
Keep clicking!

please no. donate it to something useful
You might want to edit your post. If I didn't know better, I'd think you were saying that donating to the UNCF is NOT useful.
If so, I've got bad news for you...

did any money go towards hosting or is that paid off until NT transfers to yuku? it's a lot of money but at the same time not a lot of money b/c a site this large could make much more.
This was just the money from June. Again, it's taking longer than I'd like to actually render the donations - but remember this is new territory for ezboard. No, we are NOT paid off until NT transfers to Yuku. We still have to pay our costs every month.
I don't even know what we raised in the month of JULY yet, let alone August. It's not a situation I'm pleased with, but we're doing the best we can and - one way or another - we'll make sure that things are running smoother in the coming months.
As for low earnings... ezboard is providing our advertising for the time being but if you have any contacts or suggestions for ad agents or providers (other than the usual suspects: ad sense, tribal fusion, ad brite, etc. etc.) then by all means please let us know. They're not the most relevant ads in the world, but you must first crawl before you can run. We're committed to improving in this area and if we're unsatisfied with the rate of progress then we're certainly willing to switch providers or even hosts if necessary. For the moment, we've placed our trust in ezboard and we're all hoping that they're able to come through for us.

When is it going to read the National Holocaust Museum Fund?

what if everone installs ad blocker or whatever? will you still make money?
If everyone blocked our ads, how would we be raising money? Even IF we got credit for the impressions (which is doubtful considering the ads probably wouldn't be loaded) we DEFINITELY wouldn't get any clicks - and clicks are FAR more valuable than impressions.
The ads aren't that bad. We have NO pop ups, no expanding eye blaster units. It's just ONE small ad. The least you can do is just deal with it and allow it to record impressions. If you care about supporting NikeTalk and our selected charities, please click through regularly - doing so essentially multiplies the amount we're able to donate.
