Tekashi 69 lookin at RICO

Merit
noun
  1. the quality of being particularly good or worthy, especially so as to deserve praise or reward.
People liking your songs says nothing of the merits of the music itself. There's a lot of popular stuff out there no one here would mess with because we know it lacks merit. The dismissive "people don't care about lyrics anymore" argument doesn't support a merits argument--and in fact is best categorized as not supportive.

So who decides if the music has merit? enlighten me

Each individual decides if the music has merit, but the act of listening to it doesn't tell me why that person was drawn to it. I am cool with someone liking 69 and giving an actual reason why. But just saying that he's popular doesn't speak to the merits of his music. If you get something out of it, more power to you. But I have yet to see an argument for why that addresses how you can't find those same things elsewhere.

And if I want to listen to something with energy or whatever I'd sooner listen to Tee Grizzley.

You missing the point. That rhymebook doesn't even matter in 2018.

69 def bringing the energy the youth want. So it's not trash to the majority...
You’re missing my point.
Trash is trash.

And it does matter in 2018... you think this kid is going to last?
Does cole need to spell it out again on 1985?

Yea man, tracks on Lupes joint are trash.
He even found a way to ruin a song With Damian Marley on it.
YOu have to be a special kind of hearing impaired to put Marley on a trash track.

WAV files the only song that actually 'sounds good"

Damian Marley is trash anyway...his lyrics are too thoughtful...nobody wants to hear that in 2018

how is tekashi music any different than chief keef? if anything he stole his style from chief

Music is subjective. You're oblivious if you think his popularity doesn't come from people liking his music AND his persona.

To use your example of Tee Grizzley, 69 is more popular than Tee Grizzley because people enjoy his music more.

You’re missing my point.
Trash is trash.

And it does matter in 2018... you think this kid is going to last?

No because he's in jail. However, "Trash" is what lasts these days if we're being real with ourselves....because it's not considered trash to those who enjoy consuming it.

Jay Z was trash to my grandma...the cycle continues

So we are comparing 69 to krs one now?

No, 69 is in the same tier as Petey pablo.
Where is he at now?

69 has already done laps around Petey Pablo's career. All i'm saying is we have to step into the shoes of a kid in 2018 with hyper content consumption. 69 is one of the top rappers in the game to them. I refuse to sit on my 1999 chair and knock whats hot now because it doesn't feel like my golden years.

Dummy Boy on all streaming platforms now :pimp:

He’s terrible

Roc Marc, Mach Hommy, Westside, Conway, Eto, My ninja Al.Divino , Este Nack, crimeapple, pounds, Willie The Kid, Vdon, Ankh Nasty, Hus Kingpin, RozeWood

Roc, Westside, Conway all I listen to from that list...

Most people in 2018 would call that list trash though like you are with 69

Again, just like saying something is hot on Billboard, saying music is "trash" doesn't say anything about the substance of the music. You're talking in circles.

as a ***** in my early 20’s i see the disconnect is that my generation and younger just likes **** or it doesnt, dont even think about it and older heads need a tangible reason why they like something  like someones bars or whatever

Music isn't purely subjective. It's largely subjective. But there's room for discourse. I don't kid myself in thinking that there's not an element of subjectivity. Nonetheless, most of us can elucidate why we like something. If we can't do that, we're mindlessly consuming, which may not be far off what 6pac is talking about.

Music is subjective in ones enjoyment. There's nothing you can say to make me enjoy a project or not

Your're saying anything at this point.

music is entertainment. How I choose or anyone else chooses to be entertained is up to them. My explanation for enjoying 69's music is because of the energy level. You decided that didn't fit your narrative and made it about merit. That gives it merit for me

Nah, energy level is fine. If that's what draws you to it, then whatever. People were drawn to M.O.P. for the same reason (not that I am comparing the two substantively).

But music isn't immune to criticism by virtue of being music. It's just another form of art. If someone says Son of the Mask is trash, most people aren't going to respond with a "that's just your opinion, movies are subjective." Most can distinguish between the merits of that movie and, say, The Godfather Part II. Like I said, there's room for discourse.

Nine Trey aint even certified by the Tree Tops in Cali, bunch of fakes all the way around.

"if you get caught, that just means you ******* up"

Had to Googles, first Googles was Drogas Wave: Lupe

Now I'm guessing here, but I will for sure quick listen after this post, .....but I can Gare On Damn TEE you the LUPE joint sounds absolutely terrible.
I'd bet that there isn't one "beat" on there that you'd listen to the instrumental on.
Last good song he had was Kick Push.
..............and that's the ONLY song on that Album that was edible, **** made my ears bleed.

The fact that you said "we've already been BLESSED with" told me all I needed to know............**** a Haiku Poem and KRS one lyric, this aint 1992

Drogas wave is one of the best albums of the year and I’m not the “rappity rap” guy at all. Probably Lupe 2nd or third best album

Just reread and you said kick push was his last good song which means you don’t even like The Cool...... never mind lol

soulja boi is garbage, chief keef is garbage...this? its fire...i betta neva see u hypin ish like Iil baby either...some of ya just don't like Daniel & it permeates in ya opinions of his music instead of da merits.

Wait...Daniel!?! Ok we see where you're at with this.
