They can capture the aura of the character (rich boy) without forcing it. Just kinda shatters the experience when they do. Something was off about the tone in ASM1 for me, them forcing the teengirl Twilight look into the sequel has got me worried they won't nail it down on the second try either.

But the rest of the movie looks dope, so I don't wanna get too hung up on it. But I have a cautious feeling cause of it.
they got the spiderman parts of the movie right. the peter parker portions were trash imo

Initially, colorful suits looked tacky and unrealistic, I don't see it as a slap in the face rather than just am acclimation to the real world. it doesn't help that Nolans Batman was so wildly successful and that is why they try to make it even more realistic and darker lately.

But with that said, they are slowly moving away from it. Captain America, Thor, IronMan, etc... these are films that would have had tacky costumes if made before 2000. I mean look at the evidence of the old Cap America movie and the never released F4 movie. It was just bad. Reeves Superman gets a pass but really, that suit looks dated these days and you go about in a suit like that today, it isn't going to be well received. There has to be texture and an explanation to your gear. SR costume was ok but that speedo like underwear was not a very good look.

CGI has progressed immensely this past decade and we are seeing something amazing and movies adapting the colorful spandex more and more. First Class adapted the yellow and blue and they might further expand that in DofP. Like what I posted in the other thread, costumes and hero gears has improved. F4 2 spandex wasn't bad at all and didn't look like some cheap cosplay costume, Caps shield didn't look like a cheap colorful plastic prop, Thors armor looks realistic and as if a real Norse God exists, etc...

Tobeys Spiderman suit was really int he forefront of it all though, his blue and red tights opened up that world and showed you that it didn't look so bad and that people were willing to accept it and I think they have really expanded on it to a point that we can see more colorful spandex in our future.

That's just my .02 cents on it.

tacky? again, its a movie about a boy with spider powers, tacky is out the window. does spiderman look tacky? because he pretty much has the same suit as in the comics. now yes some things wouldnt work in a movie, but the answer isnt just trowing a trench coat on a guy. WORK on something that keeps the character recognizable. green goblin? honestly, if you couldnt see the glider would you say that was the GG? lol. if you werent told that robot was the rhino would you a guessed it?

We haven't seen em clear yet though? I mean I saw SM1 and knew that GG from first look glider and all. For all we know, GG actually has a green mask and look like this once it's all clear:
676881

And yes, costume can be tacky and terrible.
676882
676883

And look, this is from Smallville and see how cheap and crappy looking that is, I saw this episode and can't take them seriously because it looks so bad and fake and that is 2009.
676884

Yes you do stretch your imagination with these characters but everything has to be executed well and a crappy costume can easily take away from the experience so it is a very integral part of the film.

I mean you look at it that way but have you seen the complaints on movies like TDKR? People were going nuts at how he got back to Gotham so quick and how his back healed fast yet it is a billionaire who dresses up as a Bat at night. :lol

You have to have the right balance and you can't just throw everyone in a colorful spandex and let them run around fighting each other. It simply has to look good.

I mean do you really want to see Foxx running around in this get up?

so you only read the first sentence of my last post huh? and of course you used the worst possible pictures lol.

i said they should work on something that works yet still IS the character. im ready for the next spiderman costume to be a boy in a blue t shirt and a red hat on with a spider symbol on it to make it more realistic. lol

:lol I read the whole thing and I addressed most of it. I mean you were talking about a trench coat on Harry Osborne, how do I respond to that? How are you suppose to him look like Harry Osborne w/o actually making his hair like int he comics? What do you want them to do, hire Blake Griffin so that he has Harry recognizable hair from the comics? I mean they put a trench coat on him, make him dress like he has money and has an old Bieber hair cut... and? I just do not see anything wrong with that at all. If he started sparkling when the sun shines on him then yeah I'll be right there with you picketing to avoid the film but they just made him look like a kid who has money to spend on clothes and that is it, what Harry is suppose to be.

And I posted a crappy costume of '77 Spiderman to show that it can be tacky and terrible on the big screen. You don't want Spiderman looking like those guys you pose a picture for in Universal Studios. They have to look right and believable that dude is a hero.

In the comics, the more colorful the better but if adapting to real life movie, then they have to be very cautious. I mean show me a good picture of that Cap I posted with the see through shield or that 77 Spiderman? Or of this F4 movie from way back then:

I didn't purposely pick the worst one of the lot of pics, they were mostly terrible to begin with. :lol

I mean that is just reaching and not even what I am saying at all. :lol Come on now, they did Spideys costume right, it is just about perfect especially in ASM2 with the bigger eyes. It looks awesome.

So far, your complaint is unwarranted because we saw a very blurry and low quality leaked trailer and a very low quality zoomed in pic of a poster. Trailer comes out in 3 days, let's see what it looks like then or better yet, let's wait til the film comes out next year? I mean in SM2, Doc Ock was done right and also almost perfectly, I loved it. Sandman in SM3 was done right but they struck out with Venom. They can't bat 1.000 all the time but they aren't always a flop either and when they do it right, they do them very well.

yes the 77 movies look bad, yes those low budget films with zero cgi suck..... whats your point? 2002 spiderman looks horrible now too. rhino is now a robot and harry is emo, GG is yet again meh, electro is a man in a trench coat.... im not impressed. i dont get why you are arguing over what my opinion should be

How is Harry emo? You saw the film?

I mean this is what mo dudes look like and Harry does not even look remotely close.

SM1 suit is far from outdated, put that in ASM2 and it'll work just fine.
677034

And I thought it was a casual and thought provoking discussion, not really arguing but that is simply how discussions work. But I guess people just got to make it all negative all the time, can't have a simple discussion w/o the other taking it the wrong way.

haha, uhhh it is a casual discussion. the fights in SM1 look like a power ranger battle. and yes harry looks emo lol. maybe hipster is a better word. either way, i dont like

and while we're talking about films ruining character's looks....... lets not act like emo parker on SM3 was true to the comic

Yo Spiderman vs Doc Ock still one of the best fight scenes in a comic book movie.

Oh for sure Emo Tobey in SM3 is one of the worst things to ever happen in a comic book film. there is no defending that.

And believe it or not, but I am with you, that they should adapt the looks and costume more true to the comics. All I am saying is that they are heading that way and that they also had done somethings real well.

Then we are agreement. Hazaa !

Trailer looks insane...INSANE. :eek

rfx45 rfx45 from that zoom in pic of green goblin from the poster it looks like it will be Harry as the goblin. If so I have a guess that Harry will try the serum in place of his father but Norman will ultimately become the real goblin to *ahem* kill Gwen Stacy

Yeah apparently, in the new synopsis and official cast list released the actor that was suppose to play Norman Osborne wasn't included.

According to Comingsoon, the official cast for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is missing Chris Cooper's name. Chris, was cast as Norman Osborn, and was assumed to turn into the Green Goblin in the second film, but recent images show that his son, Harry, will actually be playing Gobbie in the next film. Could Webb being saving Cooper for the third film in the series?

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

Since where on the topic of the symbiote SM3 I remember wanting to walk out the theatre when dude went through the character changes when the symbiote WASNT even on him :{

Then later in the movie he was struggling to rip it off, but 45 mins prior he had it nicely tucked away in a chest. I was like how did he get it off to begin with? :lol ....terrible execution.

theres change and then theres a slap to the face lol. i dont see the need to modernize everything. every villain has become a guy either wearing all black or a trench coat. BORING. why not go over the top and just making it look like the comic book character? its a movie about a boy with spider powers...... i think our disbelief was been suspended for just a bit

Because that's what was done with the earlier comic book movies, you get the Clooney Batman and people will still complaint....people always complaint, some things don't transfer over from comic/cartoon to big screen as an exact replica because it will just look corny as hell.

Topher Grace :{

Perfect as a Peter Parker doppelgänger but him as venom in that film is unforgiving

read the later posts bud.

I actually think that all of the Raimi movies are kinda bad now.

THIS

They were great for their time and I remember going to midnight releases for all 3 thinking Raimi could do no wrong but after this reimagining I realize how corny and lackluster the Raimi trilogy is...

Spiderman 2 is still flames though

Yeah the second one is definitely the best of those, but even that one is...I dunno...the word schlocky comes to mind.

Lol I agree. The end of the train scene when he's mask less trying to slow down the train always made me cringe.

Tobey Maguire facial expressions :lol
