Spike Lee's CHIRAQ trailer

Clockers was okay. Nothing special.

That aside, Spike has been hit or miss, doesn't really warrant or instill bullet-proof trust. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt however...
Clockers is a classic! It's so many gems in that movie. I don't even know where to begin. Strongly suggest you rewatch. Seeing when it released versus now is a whole different watch

Oh yeah, they def do....They went into the schools and all. I all but forgot :lol.

....Yeah, that's not good. Someone needs to make a documentary that sticks in folks minds. Not following some lame chick who disrespected her mommy and was flunking out.

**** was not memorable at all.

Truth. Some of the stories were interesting, but you can tell they have an agenda.

So what you're telling me is I should spend money on a movie I don't want to see so that I can have a discussion on why the movie wasn't a good idea?

When folks say "I'm not going to see Exodus Gods and Kings because the Egyptians weren't white" you tell them to go watch the film and judge for themselves? Don't be dense.
So your telling me an Intelligent person dedicates their time discussing a movie being bad yet has never seen the movie?

The simple fact you use such an idiotic comparison says everything we need to know.

There were no Whites in Egypt during the times supposedly depicted in Gods and Kings and the Exodus flick, which is what people are discussing.

There are black people in Chicago and Black people in the Chi Raq film, so how is this a valid comparison? There are even Chicago Natives in the Chi Raq film, so how is this a valid comparison?

niketalk.com yall.

You even try bringing up Box Office numbers as if they means anything wen it comes to a limited release film.
Classic straw man argument again and again. The comparison was not based on the substance but on folks not watching a movie and having an opinion on it. Try again.

Or as a matter of fact, don't.

Seen the movie probably half a dozen times. It just didn't have the same 'it factor' DTRT or HGG had.

What in the flying hell are you talking about? lol I`ll let you get your troll on now.

Dudes in here are literally trying to write a Book Report on a book they never held in their hands let alone read.

I`m convinced y'all are trolling at this point.
I've done this once before and got an A though.

Cliffnotes FTW.

But I totally see where you and Magic are coming from in terms of you can't discuss the movie and make sweeping claims about it without seeing it.

I said myself earlier on when ppl were just reacting to the trailer that if you wanted a Boyz in Da Hood movie Spike Lee isn't who you go to for that. He's never made a movie like that.

I have yet to see anyone suggest they wanted a Boyz n the hood style film (whatever the hell that even means) and yet it keeps getting brought up.

I think people wanted to see more authenticity and honesty, and if we're being frank that trailer lacked both in boatloads and was ******* awful, and Spike has done nothing since that I could imagine would sway those of us with doubts.

I like spike and am a fan of most of his stuff, but I was damn near disgusted by that trailer if dudes really can't understand how people have been put off by this whole thing then they just have the fanboy blinders on IMO.

That's what I got from the comments of dudes struggling with the concept of satire.

Yall wanted a serious take.

I've seen several ppl saying it should've been documentary style and what not.

End of the day look at all of Spike's movies. Ask yourself exactly what movie would you have expected him to make prior to seeing the trailer?

Exactly the same thing I've been seeing in this thread that dudes don't comprehend what a satire is :{

Completely different reasons for both films to be criticized bro you can't use those movies to compare to each other. That exodus movie got tons of crap because of the age old Hollywood whitewashing in films and the actors portraying the characters in the film. You're judging Chi-raq on its message and quality of story which are two completely separate reasons to judge either of the two movies

The only comparison being made was people not wanting to watch a movie that they had not seen strictly based on what they knew about the movie beforehand. I don't know why y'all keep drawing these straw man arguments up that I didn't make. @seandon23

it isn't a valid comparison because the reason both films are being criticized are for 2 different things. you can't bring up the exodus movie when it isn't being criticized the same way this movie is being criticized for. I'm not drawing this "straw man argument" when you said it in your posts yourself

Considering his dad works in and has influence with the local government. Is he calling out Rob someone who has real power and influence? Of course not.

Spike just said on All In With Chris Hayes that he spoke to Rob on the movie, and he didn't like the title and wished he would change it.

( scratches head while skimming through the comments ) It would seem to me that the people opposed to this movie are taking that position based solely on insecurity. A movie like this is unfavorable to the people of Chicago because it airs out that citys dirty laundry. Because I can't find 1 single legit reason for people to be up in arms over a movie they've only seen the commercial for. I don't think Spike Lee is the issue here. I think the issue is that the movie doesn't fit Chicago's narrative as a city in crisis.

Somebody post the sway spike interview. Son just ethered all the detractors

Lol i was hoping people were trolling really saying they want to have convo about how something they refuse to see was good or bad but whatever lol.

If you can watch that interview and still think Spike Lee is being exploitive then idk. Man feels strongly about what he's doing.

I'm like 8 mins in when does the "ether" start ?

All I've heard so far is some of the awful dialogue featured in this masterpiece.

This dude really brought up the murder of jennifer hudson's family as if it was tied to gang violence in an effort to justify this movie. :rolleyes

Then this dude got the nerve to have this child molester R.Kelly on the soundtrack, yea let's support a man with a history of sexually assaulting black girls, and try and lecture the black community.

Lol at having to defend casting nick cannon
What's there to defend? If he does a good acting job then what's the problem? But you wouldn't know that because you didn't see the movie. With that said , what credibility do you possess? I mean why should anyone take you at face value if you don't know that which you speak of?

That's why it's funny that he has to defend him
