I would never buy a VAG car, not very well made, get a BMW or Merc.

If it's not Quattro don't even bother. It makes such a difference in driving, cornering, accelerating, esp in the rain. It's also a beast in the snow, the downside is that it's full time and is horrible on gas. I'm talking about city driving btw, on the highway, it's much, much better.  It's a really stable car, but not that sporty. My one's auto too, and I can't speak much for maintence costs, nothing major so far.

If I were you, I would just spend the extra to get the Quattro version or get a different car, maybe a 3 series or something.
