"Guns don't kill people , people kill people " 8o

Yes but always in the context of more gun laws or less gun laws. It's just like everything else in america, pigeonholed into this vs. that, a thesis and an antithesis, something a liberal side and a conservative side can argue over.

So people are more violent and selfish these days? Really? I swear, you guys need to read up on some human history. People these days are tame as hell. Which is why I guess you guys get up in arms every time an innocent person gets shot...you don't know how good you have it.

Who said more? Or these days? Your average teenager has seen more simulated deaths than any one person would have ever seen in their entire lifetime 50-60 years ago. Hundreds if not thousands. You have millions of kids hunting each other down and killing each other in various ways online every single day. Capitalism is competition, consumerism is competition, everything everywhere pits you against everyone else. Success, rewards, happiness even, come with self serving. Perhaps the words selfish and violent simplified my point. It's all become so accepted, it's broadcast so efficiently, dominating nearly every american's developmental stage at this point.

When I was little I got in trouble in school for fighting, my teachers and parents told me violence wasn't an acceptable way to resolve differences. This was right around the time of Desert Storm, it was the first time a war had really been broadcast 24/7 like they do now

exactly the MAJOR factors that ppl aren't even considering is social media...internet etc... and how impactful it has become in molding and changing ppl views perceptions and lives. Also another factor that isn't considered is the lack of (especially in males and in particular minorities...) lack of male role models and fathers/farther figures in these young males lives. It isn't a coincidence that the vast majority of individuals in prison and/or have a criminal history are a byproduct of a single mother home. Also as far as social media is concerned it glorifies and highlight and makes incidents like those more widespread. It also is used to mold and control the mindsets of individuals who engage in these acts as well as others. I would not be surprised at all if words/emotions sentiments from some social medium...as well as the responses and opinions of others lead this individual to the breaking point to committing such an heinous act.

what are you talking about.... The crime and murder rate right now is at a 50 year low.....

social media and lack of male role models are the reason for the drastic drop in crime in the last few decades?

um I quoted the guy and said exactly...... all that crossing out you would think you actually would read it... What I said is the examples I gave are the reason why it is talked about and a constant topic today as oppose to years past.... True crime is lower especially in major cities (with the exceptions of chi...Detroit etc... n.o.) But it is talked about promoted etc... more because of these outlets. What was the equivalence of a wshh... a twitter, and instagram...facebook. etc... Hell this thread is living proof of my point... How else would ppl all over the world make a single isolated story relevant and a discussion amongst several hundreds/millions of ppl if not for some social medium? It is asinine to think a good majority of these instagram models... and the major thirst etc... would happen if there wasn't social media and a lack of father figures at home.

I mean true crime has went down... but that's such a blanket statement. You have to compare what the crimes entail...and what was the root rhyme and reason for said crimes.

I mean look at this ongoing bullying etc...which often leads to situations like this. Majority of these kids outburst and crimes stem from social media...ala so many hate twits and emails, and im's etc...

And as far as fathers are concerned the numbers prove that most of the violent and heinous criminals grew up in an all woman/female household. I mean lets look at the crimes for what they are... Ppl especially in past crimes were based on religious beliefs, survival, political statements etc... injustices.. and overall maintaining life.

Folks weren't getting jumped or killed in mass amounts over intangible/monetary things such as clothes sneakers etc... in times past as they are now. Ppl weren't shooting up large venues over letters and words and opinions of others then as they do now.

I mean it isn't fair to say oh well times are better now because thousands/millions of ppl died iuno in a civil war or a holocaust, a single isolated event/tragedy.... versus thousands of various isolated crimes over monetary value possessions and words etc... social media. Its almost like saying 1 event killing 100,000 is safer.... then lets say 100 isolated events killing 10,000 ppl.

They are saying on the news and their police are saying the shooter had no connection to the victims and it was random

I doubt it considering it was reported the shooter lived basically walking distance from the girl. It could be random and one big coincidence... but I doubt it. Im not saying senseless random unexplained murders never occur...but 9 outta 10 times there is usually a backstory or connection with acts of crime in particular with murder.

It just seems to specific considering the all of the factors surrounding the shooting.

It had to be some kinda connection....anybody who is from MD knows there are closer malls that Columbia to drive to from College Park to do something crazy like this, had to be personal
