Seattle Sonic Fans..

as much i could care less about the kings, they shouldnt move. they're fans are very loyal and deserve them. its really foolish to have them move to anaheim. c'mon thats Lakerland, its hard enough for the clippers already. it'll be even harder for the kings to get a some support being that they were a rival. if anything they should move out to the bay. theyll get their support here and in that case i could get to see my Lakers 4 times a year

Great post, you hit home especially on this last bit, if only because my A's are likely to leave Oakland for San Jose. They'll probably have more prominence in national baseball talk and they'll have a new stadium and bigger payroll, but I will always miss the Oakland Athletics. Civic entities should never be taken away from their natural home (and I do see the irony in that the A's began across the country over a hundred years ago, but I can only speak for myself). I apologize if it seems ridiculous to complain since my team is moving only 40 minutes away, but I empathize with your pain. I just wish I had more words to say.

How did I deal with it? I said $&#% the NBA, David Stern and Clay Bennett all together... I haven't properly watched an NBA game or even followed (don't care, really) the happenings in the league since the Sonics were moved. Drastic you might say? Well, there was no way I was gonna support the Thunder and with no 'ties' to other teams, I wasn't just gonna pick any team and support them.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problems with Thunder players and their team-staff, but there was no way I'd be supporting anything related to the Thunder. Like Paul said, for me it's always been the team first. Like when Griffey left the M's, I continued supporting the M's. I'd follow his performance with the Reds, but was never a Reds fan.
On a sidenote, I think it's great that GP and the Reignman have continued to show their support in bringing a team back to Seattle.  GP has also gone on record to say that he'd never accept any HOF recognition if it came from the Thunder.

I was in high school when we had the Grizz in Van City. Only had the chance to go to one game. I used to LOVE the Grizzlies. I moved from Toronto to British Columbia. I was in grade school when both Canadian franchises were being created. I used to play in a youth basketball league in T.O. that was sponsored by the Raptors. Back when they had Damon Stoudemire, Chauncey Billups, Marcus Camby, Doug Christie, and them. Then eventually the very short lived Vince and Tracy era.

When I moved to B.C. though and became older. I was more passionate about the game. Friends of mine, classmates, and people from the neighborhood used to be Grizz fans too. They became the worst team in the league, but that didn't stop me. I went to only one Grizz game and brought 2 Shareef Abdur Rahim cards because they were playing the Clips and I thought for sure they would of won that game. Wanted to get them autographed. They lost so I got my ticket autographed by Darius Miles, Lamar Odom, and a few other Clippers at the time. My friends got the back of their shirts signed. Ticket prices were already down when I was at this game and you could look across the arena and see groups of empty seats here and there. The franchise wasn't doing so well and people stopped showing.

Don't know or care to remember the owner's name at the time (never payed attention to anything but players and coaches as a kid), but the new owner was in the paper all the time and there were rumours of him moving the franchise to Memphis and he kept dodging questions about it trying to make people believe the Grizzlies weren't moving. Interest might of picked up a little bit, but it's not like in Toronto, where your team can be awful and they'll still show no matter how ugly it gets.

I miss having a franchise here. Booing Steve Francis. (No love lost though.) Kids in my school on my basketball teams used to wear really long socks to be like Michael Dickerson. If you ask me though. Vancouver doesn't deserve another franchise. Maybe the kids who grew up loving Vancouver basketball and their kids may appreciate it more. Who knows? The NBA has returned to markets before, but I bet Vancouver would be the last place they return. I remember hearing somewhere that David Stern thought that Vancouver was a mistake and a bad experience. I don't know what it is. The Lions (CFL) and Canucks (NHL) have dedicated fans, but that might be because the Lions have had a winning history and I guess we're a hockey city.

Fixed. Sacramento will never have another pro franchise again if/when the Kings leave.

It will be heartbreaking if the Kings leave Sacramento. I'm not a Kings fan (tho I loved watching them in '02/Webber days) so I don't know all the details of the current situation, but I remember hearing that in the early 90s when the team was mostly irrelevant the team would still do well in attendance (true?). Is this an issue of getting a new arena or do the Maloofs just have no interest in keeping the team in Sac? When the team was winning, those guys seemed so proud to be a part of the city. Plus, I thought Vegas was always the destination they were flirting with.

Even as a Blazers fan, I still feel terrible about how Seattle got robbed of the Sonics and will never consider rooting for OKC. No city deserves to have a team more than Seattle, but I would feel ambivalent if the "new" Sonics came from a small market like Sacramento (not that this is a possibility). Looking at the NBA map, it's hard to see how a place like Memphis should still have a team (after abandoning Vancouver, the Tigers seem to get bigger crowds). From one loyal, small market to another: We're rooting for you Sactown!

It's lonely in the PNW!

Come on Seattle, get that new arena and bring back the Sonics! (Just hopefully not from NO - it would be a minor tragedy if Hornets name & logo went extinct). Also, is it true that OKC, even w/o keeping the name, got to keep the "history" of the Sonics (championship, records, etc.)? Stern and Bennett

Sidenote: There would be no greater justice than if the Grizz relocated to Seattle, and after becoming a free agent in a few years, Durant decided to sign with them.

Funny thing is Key Arena was a good looking stage for NBA action when you watch it on TV, and if you're in the building.

I wasn't a Sonics fan, but I enjoyed Sonics basketball. Staying up late at night to catch Sonics games was cool, especially when Kevin calabro was calling the games.

Well, I followed the Rams to St. Louis and am glad I did. And if they come back? Man...I'll be throwing a party at my house.

Damn that. If I root for a team, that's my team. Screw the city.
Just doesnt feel the same..The Dodgers kept their name along with the history of the franchise when it moved to LA

Doesnt seem like old Browns fans were rooting for the Ravens before Cle got another team
hell naw, they hated da team and owner

Fans always over aggrandizing themselves

Get over it. Yall built all your other teams new arenas but wouldn't for the Sonics when it was too skinny KD shooting 38%, Jeff Green looking like a bust being taken over Noah, and then other filler like Chris Wilcox, Luke Ridnour, Desmond Mason, and Johan Petro. Now that the team has improved, kats want to be emotional.
