I hate it. Mexicans and white people took over my old blocc. No more summer blocc parties, car shows, random cookouts, basketball games or any of that. Turned the courts into a dog park/spa, I was hoooooottttttttt.

Gentrifiers are devoid of culture, but that's not why I'm anti-gentrification. When they move in, they cause the quality of living to increase exponentially. 2-3K rent in my neighborhood was unheard of five years ago. Middle class families are being slowly pushed out of neighborhoods they've lived in. I won't be able to live in the city I grew up in when I finally move out of my parents place. I'll have to live in Jersey where its affordable. Those who live in Section 8 and public housing aren't affected. Additionally, they cause an increased police presence which treats the residents like second class citizens all for the gentrifiers protection and safety. These same police were nowhere to be found before they moved in. Our safety and protection was never a priority until the money moved in.just because they don't share your culture doesn't mean your new neighbors are devoid of culture. .
I find the whole "keep gentrifiers out" attitude pretty ridiculous. It's similar to the whole anti-immigration sentiment just at a smaller scale.
PG county is only going to get worse.
'
Its like they're just building condo's EVERYWHERE in DC and Arlington.
id say yes and no on the PG county thing. Western PG county will be booming with the addition of the purple and is going to bring it a lot of development, even though that wont be finished for another 10 years or so. its supposed to run from Lanham to Bethesda so you will have people living in those areas. the East West highway and university blvd PG sections are going to see a lot of new projects, especially Langley Park where i think the main hub is going to be built.
also look at all the development going on in downtown College Park/route 1 section what is going on with the Art District in hyattsville. PG Plaza is being built up too.
Mt Rainier wants to develop their little downtown area too

Western PG county is seeing lots of development. i dont know too much about the southern portions of PG county but i think that is one of the places where people displaced by the District's gentrification will move to.
I didn't know the purple was going to Lanham, so thanks for the info. on that. Also, great insight on the rest of the information you posted as well.id say yes and no on the PG county thing. They simply want to be NYC.

I"d love to live in a slopeside condo at Vail. Unfortunately I can't afford it.Gentrifiers are devoid of culture, but that's not why I'm anti-gentrification. I appreciate the honestyYou're right, it's not devoid of culture.
It's becoming devoid of MY culture.
Being selfish here but I can't help the feeling.

Lil Havana and Overtown currently in progress...Lil Haiti's happening. I think Opa Locka is too out the way for gentrification, kinda why it only happened in Overtown/Lil Havana/Wynwood and didn't move up into Liberty City and Brownsub....if you look in the nice parts of Biscayne n all that you can still find some low income high rises, which is how I'll be able to slide off in there n holla at them yuppie guhlz walking small puppieslmao wynwood done took complete 180 , opa locka and lil haiti is next
