Remembering 9/11 ----- 24 Years Later

That day, it was on my late day for work at the auto dealership I worked at from 1997-2020 in sales. I went to the gym before it happened, saw the 1st plane hit the towers while there, then went home to watch the news. I was still living at home (I was 25 in 2001 and dealing with LOTS of medical issues (Colitis surgery, and in 2003 a failing liver which eventually required a transplant. So my parents didn't want me to move out with my horrible health).

My dad asked if I was going in. I guess I said. Got ready and went in early. Let me tell you, a literal ghost town for weeks. NO ONE came in. Thing we did though, were giving away those window clipped flags. Everyone came in and asked for one so we were just giving them to people and ordering more. But we were just there to talk with our customers who were really friends as we were a small family run dealership in the center of town. Sales picked up after a few months but the mood wasn't the same.

That **** was crazy bruh.

From beginning to the end.

We in class in high school and the drivers ed teacher talkin bout he watched a man get beheaded. And how it aint like it is in the movies.

a journalist i think.

A classmate said they should send the DC snipers to get Bin laden......but the teacher said they werent good enough shooters.

Wild ****

I feel so bad for all the Afghan women.

Till this day, I still haven't watched that beheading video nor will I ever. That was a crazy time indeed

Didn’t see any 9/11 specials on TV. Strange. Usually they a have a few on throughout the day.

Saw this on twitter

Crazy time indeed. I was in college I had just left Best Buy buying 'The Blueprint' & Fab first album.

Sat down to listen & turned on the tv. Smh

I was reading an article online that said flight 175 that crashed into the 2nd tower was descending at around 24,000 ft. in 5 mins (The average is around 1.5-2,000 ft. per min). Can’t imagine the chaos on that flight.

Any good 9/11 docs y’all recommend?

The foreign guys (I think French) who happened to be documenting NYC firefighters at the time, and caught the initial hit on a random shot to the sky. It's an incredible documentary because it's all in live time, and they are scrambling. It's harrowing, because they became first responders with the firefighter crew they were following.

Edit: this is THE definitive day of documentary of the event. The filmmakers just happened to be there, and captured all the destruction and chaos in real time. There is NO OTHER doc that can portray what they filmed that day. I won't listen to any other documentary about that day, and most people won't.

Here it is (time stamped):

I somehow was at Ground Zero two weeks before they removed the final structure in May 2002. I didn't know that until I went to the memorial and museum a few months ago. I felt almost honored to see the final pieces removed (in retrospect). I went to the museum. It's intense, man. It's a gorgeous tribute to those towers and the victims. The pools, the museum, the way they've rebuilt the area. It's incredible. I'm glad I visited. If you ever go to NYC, please visit. The video presentation on the water evacuation alone (narrated by Tom Hanks) is worth it. They evacuated 500,000 people from lower Manahattan that day. It's the largest aquatic evacuation in the history of mankind. They moved half a million people in nine hours. dudes were pulling up in tug boats and and personal yachts. Dunkirk was about 300K over three days. They were pulling people out of the water onto boats because the fire and smoke debris was that bad.

The best one I've ever seen is "National Geographic Inside 9/11: War on America" but for whatever reason it is the hardest one of find. It's never streaming on any platform. There are bits and pieces on YouTube but never the full 2-disc version. It's hands down the best IMO, as it goes back from the early 80s up through the events of the day.

Anyway, the two things I remember leading up to that day was Jordan officially announcing he was coming back to play on the Wizards and the release of the blk/red and white/navy Jordan 1s that happened two weeks before. I was on AOL with my buddy making plans to play ball on Tuesday morning. I ended up sleeping in. It wasn't until my mother woke me up at around 10:30am that I found out what was going on.
