I was bored at work so I decided to look up rappers and their age.
I was surprised to find out No Malice and Bun B are both 52. Kool g rap is only a year old than Jay z.
Time really is illmatic.
Speaking of the clipse Pitchfork gave the album a 6.5. I haven't heard the album yet. Gonna get it a run during my next workout.

It's crazy to me nobody saw this coming I was noticing this gradual change in the late 2000s and all of the 10s.
The 90s rappers who would've started aging out the game realized they didn't have to leave. There was no immediate new wave of NYC rap. Fine, let's take it to the South and they rock out for a bit then go to the West and get the Midwest popping, see what they on. Lateral moves and a lot of recycling.
Then a new crop starts establishing themselves but the older rappers are still pretty dominant. Hip hop doesn't get fully broken up in to multiple genres equally or by age but it keeps expanding. It's not like Rock N Roll where subgenres are firmly established and older acts have their own lane as well.
That new crop is also not selling as well as the previous generation. They also not as good either. The divide solely becomes what's commercial and everything else. Commercial rap takes over mainstream rap almost completely. New tech and social media dominance also helps change things. Now you don't even really have to be a rapper, just be an entertaining personality cuz nobody buying **** anyway so the "artist" is just being used to get ad dollars. Major labels realize the dip and get more territorial, 360 deals to own everything you make that might be good that could make money long term, and at the same time no money put into actually developing talent.
Just an overall downward trend.

And the next stage of this progression will have AI producing music and writing lyrics. Once the audience is sufficiently dumbed down and far removed from any "essence" of hip hop, which shouldn't be long, they'll accept it.
All those artists selling their catalogs right before all this AI went main stream were selling training data. They probably whipping up an AI superstar as we speak.
They'd get too much pushback and ridicule still today, but the children of these kids today, they'll probably accept it. Its gonna be the typical formulaic pop we see today but on steroids and across all genres.
