Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Currently listening to the Akademiks episode of Brilliant Idiots.

It didn't seem a biased against Joe at first, moreso just CTG & Andrew giving him advice.

But after a while it felt like they want Akademiks to grow, just w/o Joe.

Between that & their interactions on The Breakfast Club, it def makes me wonder if there's some underlying issues between CTG & Budden.

It's odd he finds Joe self destructive, but still talks about Tax glowingly.

I agree w/ this.

in the words of Nore i'm befuddled as to why ya'll are acting as if the BC isn't the biggest viral/online show in hiphop culture tho... or as if the host don't have substantial noteriety online. I have NEVER heard a breakfast club show live on the radio, yet every time something happens on that show there are viral clips and it's being discussed all over social media. This narrative that the 18-26 yr old demo doesn't tune in to the breakfast club is just a lie in it's most basic form.

To put this in perspective that Birdman Clip dropped a day after Prince died.... After that initial 24hrs the biggest story on the TL was Charlamagne's exchange with Birdman, ya'll tellin me terrestrial radio listeners were the ones firing up the meme's and trending the video :lol

Also again to the person who at nauseum taalkin about who the teens care for.... News flash the BC is centered specifically for teens. so while some 16 yr old may wanna here a discussion with lil whoever.... there's still a massive percentage of there viewers who don't and would rather hear from a politiciaan, or an actor etc etc.

These people are interviewing the Chris Rocks, Jay-Z, Farrakhan's, presidential candidates of the world.... and ya'll are claiming they should change their set up to "compete" with Joe Budden & AK of the world who are arguing whether Wale is corny or not..... i like everyday struggle but there's major perspective missing

nobody is saying ES is putting them out of business from a mainstream radio success perspective of them interviewing chris rock farrakhan angela rye but we're just saying ES main audience doesnt care about that content and that is the audience that ES will and is surpassing them in

if we had the choice to see jay z on tbc or ES what do you think we want to see

charlemagne is the only entertaining part of TBC...Envy is an idiot and Yee just brings up dumb gossip questions

I'd watch Hov on TBC before ES though :lol do you hear the type of questions they asked the two guest on their show? No thanks

Comparing ppl who interview presidential nominees to people who argue with Lil Boat and Wale. This is wild.

If your point is you like ES because they only focus on the subject YOU like then they really aren't going far. In order for your brand to grow you have to step outside the box.

You read, but you don't seem to comprehend

I'll break it down for you
I get what you trying   to say but the first part is basically "what ifs".
ES is strictly internet, There following is on social media and the internet which people younger than 25 use.
I agree
TBC is on radio, syndicated. I Heart next month could have a bad quarter and say we're no longer going to syndicate nationally. We're going to let go some talent like ESPN and SI. Because local radio and most local radio listeners prefer local radio DJ's anyway. Markets were pissed when the companies started syndicating and taking away their host they grew up on away. People who could tell local stories and news. I Heart doesn't do that, because it's cheaper. Instead of paying radio personalities in 45 markets, they can pay just one. If I Heart decides on something different, TBC goes back to being local just like that. I Heart could also could make a shake up if ratings dip. That Birdman interview means something entirely different if just the tri state area hears it.
TBC is based around being on the radio, radio, in which most young people don't listen to. If there is no strong radio syndicated radio presence, there is no online presence. Their listener ship decreases immensely.
 And subscribers?

What has Complex's most popular videos been before? Those sneaker shopping ones get over a million, two million views. Complex has multiple channels. They have a brand and online presence and are building a network, like with those hot wings. They did the same thing with these sneaker websites, most of the big ones are under Complex. They've gone from magazines to trying to occupy pieces and segments of the internet. TBC, the reason dude probably stopped posting TBC vids up here is because he probably got a cease and desist. Because right after that they started shutting down all the other TBC channels until there was one. YouTube merged all those subscribers in to one and started chopping up their show like the bootleg sites did. Because even though they had a online presence, for the past six years they missed out on YouTube money because of the bootleg channels. They had content, but didn't monopolize it.
TBC is totally dependent on what a fortune 500 company decides to do. Which can always change. Ed Lover was getting ratings, and they let him go.

You new ****** crack me up. I'm this 18-26 demo loves to hear the everyday Drake slurping, Aks struggle list of classic albums, Lil boat say chill and Wale talking about being the man in High School. All that is entertainment, but TBC covers race, politics, and health. Something I wish I paid attention more attention to when I was part of the 18-26 target audience.

In the past week TBC had two guests that spoke about topics that always found in General. You go into TAY and Rhino pills from the Kwik-E-Mart is whats popping. Dr. Oz talked about the danger of those pills and what natural supplements you can take. In another thread we had people buying fully loaded Kia's and not understanding why that's a bad ideas. Jeanne Kelly was on and talked about credit, and the ways you can obtain and improve your credit. I learned more in 23 mins of her interview, then I did all four years of college as a Business major. Or you can watch both programs and be entertained in different ways

it's moreso nothing from a media/entertainment standpoint has come out that was as hot or hotter than the breakfast club within hiphop

people who don't even watch the breakfast club are sending me links to everyday struggle and they've never sent me links to stuff before

it has people talking, I can't speak for others but I'm not saying es will put tbc out of business

but it's changing up people's watching priorities in terms of what they'll view first

Drake torey lanez
600 breezy
Billboard awards
Treach wack 100

Akademiks should flourish on these topics

Slim Jim is dirt

I've never heard anyone give props to Slim Jimmi's verse, it's all about the beat, Gucci's verse, and Swae Lee's hook and sound in general. You could almost end the song right before Slim Jimmi's verse just like Uzi's Bad & Boujee verse and no one would have a problem :lol would prefer neither of them to go solo though, they work perfect together, just like Mogos
