Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

I remember when the "New Music Cartel" was running **** lol.

Social media is indeed the new blog. I still visit 2dopeboyz like once a week tho, it was a time I checked that site multiple times a day. And ironically the last time i was on the site, the first post I saw was the Russ kid flex freestyle. I clicked play because I see dude is bubbling on social media, wasn't too impressed tho.

So T pain released some unreleased work he had when Wayne when they were supposed to drop that project. **** is trash.

As a Wayne fan myself dude been overrated. Kids-teens love or loved him cuz that's basically what he is and rapped about, kid ****. Always had a good delivery but overrated as hell when people try to put him with Jay, Nas, Biggie and Pac.

No disrespect but you a kid. You was definitely a kid in Waynes prime. That's who his music is for. He says a lot of nothing and just made it sound good and catchy. Jay, Nas, Biggie, Pac drop jewels in their music, Wayne? Hell nah. Carter 2-3 is the only time dude rapped about something. That's why I always preferred TIP over him. Even when I was your age. TIP made grown man music. Waynes music is good for a certain vibe but when we talking about the goats and _'s that made real **** he's not in that group to me.

All this. Wayne was just popular at the time and had mass record sales, but to me that's not skill or legend status. If that's the case time start putting Hammer and Big Willy in that category too.

Joe Budden done calmed down quite a bit on Everyday Struggle since they first started. They're finding their groove and chemistry.

Joe still irks me with the fake tough guy persona. He knows he can do that with Complex and Akademiks. Scream, yell and say **** you etc. ***** was trying to act like an intellectual around Taxstone though :lol.

Energy def don't be the same. I hate ***** that pick and choose.

What was the beef between Joe & Taxstone? I listened to it not too long ago & Tax came off mad disrespectful. What's the history between them?

Maybe it's just me cause I've noticed his pattern of behavior over the years...but when Joe is animated and yelling...I don't interpret that as trying to be "tough". That's just him. Calling him tough in that setting would suggest he's trying to intimidate Akademiks. I'm not reading that at all. It would be like saying Stephen A is trying to be tough when he goes into his mode.

Idk if "tough" is the right word. But the energy is def different with him and certain types of people. He not carrying that same level with Tax and NORE. He plays another role depending on the setting. Joe also isn't as smart as he thinks he is.....but that's a convo for another time.

Honestly, I think he initially didn't respect Akademiks not one bit :lol. So he was always at his neck. But I think there is a growing cordiality and chemistry between them too...and the latest episodes have been better...while not having to rely on major news.

Nebraska is starting to speak out a lil bit more too. Shorty was a mime before.

Also, the TBI with Akademiks is pretty good. Gives you a background to his come up. He's an immigrant from Jamaica that didn't move here til jr high...and said he got immersed in the culture when he started Dj-ing and radio hosting in college.

I also gotta always Big up CTG for giving dudes chances. He funny style....but really do be trying to lift ppl up.

Ya'll agree with CTG saying that this show aint gonna last that long? He gave it 6 months.

He just hating. That was clear animosity and feeling somewhat threatened.

Sucka ****.

Idk why the podcasters feeling the heat. Even my guys...Desus and Mero took some shots. It's understandable seeing as how their first platform was Complex.

There's just so much daily source material in the genre / pop culture, and when you combine that with the fact that we have an insatiable desire to debate andchime in on everything, I see this going for awhile. First take, and in general 'Hot Take' culture have made shows like Everyday Struggle, and First Take legitimate.

I think they have a bonafide hit. This format of documenting Hip-Hop and pop culture was a format that previously wasn't there so them being kind of ahead of the curve in that regard has them with some staying power, I think.

ctg was moreso saying joe is self sabotaging and would find a way to walk away from the show while it's hot on some chappelle s**t

but the fact that he's mentioned the show 3 weeks straight allows you to know he feels the competition

Yeah I could understand Desus and Mero taking a shot. Just started listening to Bodega Boys and the early episodes mention they got fired from there.

Show definitely has potential. It needs some tuning. Reecurring segments and a set time will have it right.
