Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

The amount of desperation QC had to try to get him going was incredible

Man...Pee had to step from behind the scenes to get Yachty off of life support . He was almost done for....but Pee realized yachty’s earning potential if marketed again correctly and put him on all the QC projects while strong arming people to not talk bad about him :lol.

Yachty seems like a nice kid that’s a terrible rapper. Very interesting to hear him increasingly spit more gun bars and “my mans will shoot you if you mess with me bars” though.

I wouldn't say fake numbers, just getting more clever about promotion. They went heavy on the socials for this one. If you have Snapchat and have been on in the last week or 2 you've almost definitely seen an ad for this album. He was a lot more active on there himself in the week leading up which is smart.

I saw people saying they accidentally clicked the ad and it opened their spotify app and started automatically playing the album :smh:

Actual numbers aren't out yet tho they projecting 60-70k, could be more, could be less.

His first album didn't do as well because he went outside of his brand. His fans were more used to hearing him make sing songy bubblegum type songs ala One Night, the track w Kyle etc and he came w some harder trap stuff. They kinda doubled down w the trap sound on this one tho so it seems like he's in the midst of a more "harder" rebrand altogether since he's getting older.

His numbers look fishy.

He was hotter for Lil Boat and had bigger singles/features out. His interviews were also being talked about and he had a national commercial.
QC definitely doing some trickery with these numbers. They been promoting this boy HARD tryna clean the mess from his first album. They not letting him have back to back flops. It would be a terrible look.

Like 45 or something

Looks like he outsold:

The king of New York (mr Hernandez aka 69)
The most successful rapper of all time (nipsey the great)
And hip hops very own chameleon (Tory lanez)

No bad if I must say, establishing a fan base :pimp:

Did you buy Yachtys album? Show the physical or digital receipt... if not........

Yachty tryna change the narrative with that flex "freestyle" he got

He would be better off doing some lil kid comedy than music. Already 1 big flop under his belt and I haven't heard any good things about his new album.

everyone on my TL rocking with it which is probably where that 70k coming from, his main demo of 13-25

if they was gonna cook the numbers they migt as well give that man 90k+

lil baby skated on this. he lowkey should do a 2-3 verse freestyle.

Yachty was the only rapper of the newer generation to be in major corporation commercials (sprite/Target) And still sold significantly less than Kodak/21 Savage/XXX/Uzi.

He should’ve did 70k first time around

we gotta stop talking about sales like theyre not just pretty much a different way to say “this album was streamed x times”. RIAA holding on to old metrics.

saying flop and **** is funny but there have probably been less than 5-10 million physical albums actually sold in America period since Apple Music came out in 2015. like who’s paying 10 bucks a pop when you can get everything for 5-10 bucks or with a little google saavy, for free lol (aside from older people who dont wanna be bothered with new tech)

we keep saying “x sold this” like these dudes (lanez, 69, yachty, etc.) all arent doing thousands and millions of streams. turning that streaming number into a fake number of albums sold is pointless to me and its some **** the music industry does bc its stuck in the past

I watched a zaytiggy/ Scott storch collabo and Zay blew him out of the water.

Zaytoven >>> Mozart

i use to wonder why zay wasnt listed with the timbos and dres and pharrells and now i see that his run aint even really start yet.

trap quincy jones.

maybe for the younger kids but my favorite yachty joint when i first discovered him was

Haven't listened to the album but the homie said the same exact thing.

it's funny hearing him and Uzi do the whole shoot em up schtick when it's unnecessary for their image

These new rappers are going double wood.

Watch we get fake numbers with Cardi B. They gonna count bodak and that other trash single in her first week sales to make it seem like she moving real units and they gonna look for the next stripper/ig model to get two singles from, wait a year drop they album rinse repeat. Labels are trash so are the new rappers

20/20 report on hip-hop in 1981.

I just started reading The Rap Yearbook last night and in the 1980 section where they pick Kurtis Blow's "Breaks" as the focus, Ice-T mentions this documentary. Fitting that I would find it in here the next day.

Thanks for posting!

Yeah this is one of his better songs and that was prolly peak Mexiko Dro/Plug time period. Thing is that’s not his brand or what he’s known for because those aren’t the ones that really caught for everybody else. It was stuff like One Night, Minnesota, Wanna Be Us etc.

A lot of people started listening to him then so their opinion starts at that point basically. The hipster types wanted weird sing songy “ironic” **** from him not trap bangers.

It’s interesting tho that cause all those types are falling off of him but ppl that usually just listen to ATL trap banger type **** are beginning to like him now

I’m old but yachty album isn’t terrible to me lol. The songs with features will get played in the whip until something new drops lol

they running out of subject matter. you can extend this to the whole game.

people just wanna keep a vibe going so they fall back on gun or money bars.

facts that lane is so consistent and the fanbase never seems to get tired of it because its a soundtrack to a lifestyle so repetitiveness dont matter.
