Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Yea man Houston had a distinct sound but I cant agree that drake stole their sound. His biggest songs sound nothing like Houston.

Can somebody provide me an example of houston dudes singing back in the day?

Charlie boy was a rapper & harmonizer who often stopped rapping mid verse and started singing

This was before he moved to Houston. He was in Canada for this trash.

exactly....

like bruh...Charlie boy, HAWK, ZRO, big moe...yes they all sing but are y'all really about to sit up here and say this is Houston sound bruh

?? this is Houston era... and if you want we go into So far gone

Who did he bite a song like little bit from in 2009?? 808s? Houston?? :lol

Drake moreso pays homage, interpolates and makes songs inspired by somewhere. He has his own sound. I wouldn’t consider that biting.

What Tory Lanez does though it’s truly biting. There’s a difference. Thread gets weird when it becomes a Drake hate circle jerk . I’m not the biggest fan of the *****, but damn. Give him some credit here and there.

Anyway....Tory is a chameleon and biter at the end of the day. He really struggles from not having his own sound...so that makes it kind of hard for him to really have a core fan base....Cuz he’s just doing good impersonations of your favorite rapper . Once you listen to Tory once...you can just go listen to the actual artist he bit once your done.

Idk why he’s going with this Street ***** image as of late though. Identity crisis.

Lanez definitely has no identity. He practicality does karaoke on albums. He’s in the same boat as Logic and G-Eazy. Why listen to the off brand versions of Drake, Kendrick and Cole when you can just listen to the real versions making better music ?

Any songs?

JPrince basically gave Drake a YouTube tutorial on Houston music but “h h h he doesn’t use that s s s sound” You probably think ASAP Rocky isn’t influenced by Houston and Memphis music either

riiiiiiiight, I can only imagine they were sitting around watching vids of Charlie boi and zro :( still waiting on the evidence lmao

On the Run Eatin was cool. They do and eat some wild **** on the show. It's worth the watch, dope seeing a bunch of Ricans from NY get a show.

Death Row Chronicles was hard. BET did a great job, worth the watch.

I'm listening to this Torey Lanez album and he's talented. He's got some joints on here but MY problem with this is his sound and direction is all over the place. Album sounds like a damn soundtrack. Too many different sounds, accents, attitudes and so on. One second he a battle rapper, next second he's singing to some broads and then the next he's in the caribbean somewhere. He needs to find his lane and master it.
