Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Kanye was dropping great music at one point. Lets not act like he hasn't made a big impact in hip hop. Him and Just Blaze changed the sound of hip hop. At this point I think people have gotten so invested in Kanye that they can't turn it off. Me personally I have no interest in him at all anymore because he's gone full clown and the music is trash. The music ain't hitting like it used to so he has to do stunts for attention.

Y'all be acting like Drake don't stay sneak dissin Kanye. Idky, but for whatever reason Drake just gets under the guys skin. Probably b/c he's lightskin, idk but this frenemy thing probably started around this time b/c this was a set up:

There's plenty of talented rappers out there there that's like that lol

The obsession with him is straight weirdo behavior to me

A lot of it has to do with Kanye representing the regular dude in rap amongst drug dealers, superheroes, playas and gangstas. Kids felt he was representing them. Em had the same. It's always been bigger than music with Kanye and Em. It was rooting for the underdog. 50 learned that with that competition that started his downfall. You root for them as people versus the music, because it's also part of you.

He brought the niche following that backpackers had mainstream magnified. Despite Tribe and Outkast success, labels weren't signing and pushing regular dudes anymore.

And the **** is cult like. Lil Wayne was big musically, but it was just music. Can anyone else put a bunch of ****** projects out, have them go to a stadium on short notice, wait for two hours to watch a ****** performance of half done music and still have them happy to have been there like he did THEM a favor AND want to do it again.

I should have clarified. I understand why he was initially liked and rooted for. I meant I don't understand the current obsession with him, especially considering how fickle hip hop fans can be.

He hasn't made great music in years, his fashion stuff is horrific, and his ignorance combined with influence about certain topics can be very misleading.

I'm not saying he should have been "canceled" but hip hop fans have given up on a lot of other great artists for a lot less while continuing to obsess over that dude. That's the part that baffles me.

“****** pullin' gimmicks 'cause they scared to rap”

This coming from a ***** who literally bowed out of a rap battle and sent J prince on a book tour to protect him is insane  .

Not to mention this

Kanye has made it clear from the beginning of his career that rap battles isn't his M.O, two guys who LOVE to rap been spitballing this ***** in his head for years but he ignores that to keep trying to bait Ye.

We gotta call a spade a spade.

This is quite simple thing to grasp, everyone doesn't feel the same way about him as you do nothing more nothing less, but for some reason people seem to be really annoyed that others enjoy Kanye.

there's a small handful of Kanye fans who even post in the music thread, yet every time dude does something there's still comments & convos on it from his detractors

Dude has cemented himself as a legendary figure in hiphop, he's going to continue to have a following like any of the other greats throughout history have.
