I consider wordplay a component of lyricism. Cuz there are things that do entail being lyrical; rhyme scheme, metaphors, double entendres, punchlines, etc.
This is how I look at it. I view Nas as a lyricist in how you describe it. But I view Jay as using more wordplay than anything. Which is why I dont really get the comparisons when they have two different stylesimo lyricism involves painting a picture with the words
i guess i view wordplay as more of a technical use of literary devices like alliteration and metaphors etc.
i feel like you can be lyrical without the use of those technical aspects
