Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Mal & Ak are NOTHING alike as far as their opinions go

And as far as Rory talking about impact something had i don't see the issue, i'm 29 & vividly remember the "impact" Vol 2 had, or the impact DMX/Ruff Ryders had... whether it came from what the hustlers were listening too, to how much a song was on radio, to how the artist were talked about by the older cats, Changes in fashion etc etc.

I think that seems more difficult now because generations in hiphop seem so divided now, but this wasn't always the case. a lot of the rap music i grew up on as a kid was the same rap music that was being listened to by the older cats & making an impression on them.

Not the reason I compared the two.

If you listen to Mal talk about rap he discusses it like someone who is younger than he is. I thought Mal was younger than he was, because stuff he was around to hear he seems clueless about. Like when Joe discusses acts from the 90's. You would think he would be knowledgeable just from the simple fact of who his brother is. Just like I thought Ak was younger than he was, because of how he discusses music. You you would never know Mal is a year younger than Joe.

and as far as knowing about music at 10. Yes, you can know it or have heard it. But who can better discuss what was happening then or the effect the music had on the people? Someone who was ten, or who was twenty? At ten you were in the fifth grade. Talk to a fifth grader. At ten you pretty much like anything that's popular. Your taste is reactionary. Music didn't revolve around you or was promoted to you. You wouldn't know what was playing in a club. I'm not having a discussion on Michael Jackson who saw the evolution. I was supposed to like Michael Jackson, because everyone else was. I was a kid.

In other news...

6ix9ine really run NYC damn :nerd:

That look like some Bronx foolery. The spanish jawn on the far right low key remind of a jawn from up that way. May wish her a happy New Year.

I wasn't in the club at 10 but I know for a fact that Back That *** Up was big in clubs and parties. It ain't that hard to know what's going on when you're a certain age. And like Ty said back then it wasn't this corny divide between "young" and "old".

What would you think if your 10 year old cousin told you about the music today and what was hot?

Depends on what he said but I'm not gonna close my ears like he doesn't know anything. At 10 I knew Make Em Say Uhh and Hardknock Life was 2 totally different songs.

That's not the conversation we're having. Knowing what's popular isn't doesn't mean you can have a conversation on a song or the music. You can barely understand the lyrics and you speak on it on a grade school level. What you say is going to be looked at something a ten year old said, and it shouldn't and wouldn't be though of as equal.

You would be surprised then at what some kids understand. Like I said it all depends on what they said.

Lol that keke kinda go hard. A boogie part atleast

How you know what’s playing in the club at 10yo? :lol jw

I only knew what my brother played in his whip and what was on the radio. And maybe what played on MTV and BET That’s about it.

That 6ix9ine dude is a clown.

And whats Fetty Wap even doing? Couple years ago he was well on his way to becoming a superstar n had like 5 songs on the pop charts. Now he's doing trash collabs with bums smh lol

It maybe because Rory is white and sorry I'd have to agree. Unless he grew up around a bunch of older black people before he was 10, like someone mentioned aint no Irish family in their crib bumping 90s rap and r&b.

Me and dude are exactly the same, him being a few months older and I can't tell you the impact on something from the 90s, n_ I was paying video games and watching cartoons smh
