Rap About Nothing: Hip Hop Chat Thread

Arguable, sure. But we can argue anything if we have time. If we’re talking the past 10 years, we’re only discussing Relapse, Recovery, MMLP2, Revival, and now Kamikaze. Save for Revival, I’ve heard both negative and positive sentiments around all those albums. But that’s the case with literally every album put out in the hip hop genre. Kamikaze seems to be well received since it’s dropped.

I’m not rolling with the idea that Em is some lesser emcee. Son has a stretch of 3 consecutive classics in a discography of 10 albums. Save for one that’s undeniably bad album (Recovery), the totality of his catalogue is solid. I’m not about to be dismissive of Em like that. Especially not because disgruntled Magic chooses to vent his frustrations on the podcast. Fact of the matter is son is saying that the bars Em gave him doesn’t warrant a rap response... but over an hour and 30 minute rant is suitable.

That’s corny.

I don’t like Joe Budden the personality but he talked about the diss for an hour and a half and won’t rap?

Soft

Joe barely talked about the diss.

More talked about Em's struggle the last 10-12 years making great music and what happened to Slaughterhouse and why they had issues at Shady.

Joe also said if Em drops a real diss record, he'll respond.

I do agree the point that Em's bars weren't worth a response.

TES isnt this bonafide classic people want it to be. Half of it's good. It's just great in comparison to the trash hes dropped after

And his diss didnt warrant a response tbh. He said something something about a body bag and smacking *******. He didnt reall bar him up:lol

That’s my point. Em didn’t bar him up. I agree with Joe that the line didn’t warrant a response.

But it damn sure didn’t warrant an hour and a half tirade about your issues with Em to the degree that you’re talking down on that man like he’s a peon rapper. Eminem is a ******* legend and folks are discounting that on some prisoner of the moment steeze. Call him trash when he’s trash (ie Revival and the other more debatable albums), but to say that ***** is “a lesser emcee”... get the **** out of here.

Like cut the ********, Joe. This was you just a year ago.

Wow. This Drake/Kanye is like watching 2 lame _'s fight. One loves Trump, the other wore blackface and doesn't race. Both slipped up with h0ez. It's too much material on both sides. And is Drake still ducking Pusha?

Joe Budden is bugged the **** out for saying that Em is a lesser emcee. I’m not rollin with that. Ever.
It's been a whole lot of rewriting history on Em lately. People act like he was never looked at as one of the best lyrically or that black people never liked/listened to him.

Joe Budden damn sure was never as good as Em. Forget sells and popularity. Joe at his best was never as good as Em at his best.

Couldn't the same prisoner of the moment mentality be attributed to Em's come up as well?

Just for conversation purposes

Yes!

“IM SORRY MAMA, I NEVER MEANT TO HURT YOUUOUUU”

when I go back and listen his music it sounds so lame now. He has some cool tracks and is a dope MC but the majority I thought was hard sounds so corny now. Reasonable doubt, it was written, it’s dark and hell is hot and more... those still sound just as good as the first time I’ve heard them.

I can honestly say I was on Em as heavy

before 10 yrs ago as I've been off him the last decade

Drake is looking like a bully at this point  this is sad to watch. Koonye doesn't want any smoke with that man, and he's making that painfully obvious.

It's like watching a fight where one dude isnt fighting back, and just crying while getting his a s beat.

*Shrugs*

I dont feel like that's too outlandish. Album is 20 tracks. While it contains some of his best writing and cleaning out my closet is still one of my favorite tracks, he still has tracks like Without Me and Square Dance

It definitely could be. But in that case, we have the capability of revisiting his music during that time and redetermine if it was actually great or if it has aged well. It sure as hell was/did in my book. I still listen to TES, MMLP, and TSSLP to this day.

I will not stand for any Square Dance slander.

I just listened to the first LP... **** did not age well, at all. Has 3 songs I'd listen to again, not a classic

5 albums and 14 years of pure garbage. He hasn't been great since early 2000s and had chance after chance. At this point his catalogue is mostly terrible. When is the last time Em had a seriously great record? Or a real hit?

No one is bumps any post 2004 Em, let's be real(if that). How can you call him a goat with that weak discography? Jay, Nas, Kendrick, Ross, Drake all have better music over longer periods of time.
